Well at least he can't have injured himself with it out of the box, unless he's clubbed himself unconscious with it

Okay okay okay okay okay!!!

No pics yet, yeah, I know... deal with it...  I'll have some to post tomorrow night...

Just been playing with it so far.

Initial impressions:

Great overall camp/utility blade.

Handle is a bit thick, can be difficult to grasp with gloves on, even for me, and I have large hands.  Unfinished, and feels a bit slick when dry, but once you get some sweat on it, it gets very grippy.

Blade has a distal taper.  Not smooth, but seems to have some slight steps in it; must have been done by hand.  Also makes the angle of the edge change as you progress down the blade.  Seems like a good idea, because you'd want to use the longer portion of the blade for cutting brush etc., and the shorter portion for chopping, splitting, etc.

Haven't split with it yet, but it goes through brush and grass with ease.

Had an axe like edge out of the box, could have cut with it, but didn't.  Used my Smith diamond stone to put a real edge on it.  After about half an hour of various goofing off with weeds and small branches in the back yard, chopped down some thistles.  Had a couple of errant strikes go into the dirt / stones.  Caused a couple of small nicks in the blade.  Easily removed with my Smith two sided hone.

Blade seems a little soft.  Is easy to sharpen.  For a field tool, I know that's what you want, but this is my first high carbon steel blade, so I'm still getting used to it.

Very nicely balanced, just forward of the handle, about where the edge starts on the blade.

Very nice leather sheath; a good value for the money.

More thoughts and pics to follow tomorrow.

Sorry guys... I've been really busy...

I'll see about getting my wife to gets some pics this evening of me cutting a few things still left in our back yard.

I'll get started on a write-up/review of it tonight too.

I ordered a Lansky Puck yesterday too, so when that gets here, I'll let you know how it works on the Golok.

Hey guys... I went camping with my family at Mammoth Lakes last weekend, and used "the knoif" as the wife calls it, to do some light wood processing.  I took a few snaps.  I'll post a review when I can.

I came down with a nasty cold on Monday that's pretty much knocked me on my kiester since then.  I'll post the pics and a review as soon as I'm up to it.

Okay, review posted in the Reviews section.

Not real systematic, but I tried to be thorough.  Didn't worry too much about fine details like specs and the like.  Focused on quality, usage, and value.  Sprinkled some random thoughts on versatility and usage throughout.

Enjoy.  :salute:
