Benchmade Thoughts Needed
on: June 10, 2012, 05:31:48 PM
Very Very new to EDC folding knives. I Want to go with benchmade cause of the loud customizeable colored handles you can put on a griptilain. Along with the other options you can customize it seems like a cool buy.

Also the Benchmade Triage has my eye. Would it be good for the fire service? Is it Wet condition Friendly? Does the hook safety cutter Do what its supposed to do?

Any info is great info Thanks

Benchmade has a pretty well earned reputation as a quality maker with innovative designs, they've also been around for a very long time.  Quality is first rate and they have a pretty good range of products as well.

As for the Grip and mini-Grip, well, they're benchmark knives - it's quite often that people will judge new options for carry and use against them because they're so ubiquitous.

I don't know if many folks here have experience with the Triage, I certainly don't.  In terms of rescue capability, the Spyderco Assist is quite highly regarded and cheaper to boot.

BM are very nice knives, though a bit pricey for what they are...

Somebody at EDCforums tested four different rescue knives, including the Triage. As I recall, it did very well.

Thanks Everyone. I couldnt help but laugh at BM  as an abbreveation For Benchmade.Nice one sawman. One reason why i called out for some opinions on Benchmade products. I've bought plenty of tools over the years that are worth a BM.

Ive read the Benchmade website over pretty good and feel confident in any future purchase of a knife from them. or somewhere cheaper. The Triage looks like my new toy to line my turnout gear pockets. Who knows. Some more reasearch is in order. Gonna go check out EDCfourms and check out the test Gryffin reference to. Thanks again for the input.

I currently EDC a Triage 915 with the orange grips.  I've had it for a month or 6 weeks and haven't found any flaws yet.  The modified sheepsfoot blade works very well for utility work and came razor sharp.  The cutting hook is superb.  I haven't used it on a seat belt, but I have cut about 40 cable ties with it, several pieces of plastic strapping, paracord and microphone cable.  Both the blade and hook open easily with one hand.  The Axis lock is as solid as they come and completely ambidextrous.

The Triage is a fairly large pocket knife, but I've found it rode well in khakis, jeans and even dress pants.

With the Triage clipped to my pocket, my SwissTool and Photon Proton Pro or Zebralight SC51 on my belt, I'm ready for most of the regular, and many irregular, daily tasks.

I had considered a Griptilian, but decided the Triage would suit me better.  Of course, one can never have too many knives. . .
