However, my deer rifle is a .45-70.......
Sorry Al,but here I go again. On the subject of Promethious and ThnderBolt pellets:Dont do it!Well thats a bit strong but neither pellet is lead, both are zinc based. They offer much higher mussle velocities with out raising the musslel energy. The down side is that you need a lead free barrel in order to to get results. With conventional pratice, you need to fire about 100-200 pellets through a virgin barrel in order to lead it in.smll amounts of led are left in the rifling which act as lubricant. Please dont ask the logic, but it is the truth. As to things like Milbro Jets, you get what you pay for.Its like buying a MT made of Unobtainium, and modding it to take a cheap smurf blade.Pelpex do pellet packs where you can get test batches of a number of pellets. But generally brands like AirArms,Accupel,JSB Exact deliver the goods, but forgive me for aying this again:BSAs LOVE AA FIELD 5.52!The flat headed pellets are usually used for paper targets, where they puch very precise holes. They do also offer good stopping power when hunting, but from HFT experiance, after 15-30 meters they just loose all value. I'm sorry, guys, but...an air rifle? What if you only wound the sucker? Do you have any idea what an enraged charging rabbit can do? If not, I suggest you watch Holy Grail again. You live in the land that brought us such ballistic joys as the .375 H&H and the .470 Nitro Express. Don't take any chances, I say! Just be careful not to sink any boats along the way.....
for the litter and the proud mother and father. Do you have any favourite recipes to share with us? (I assume you keep them for meat since you posted here. )
.375 H&H for rabbits? I'm just waiting for someone to say "Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure."
It was just a thought....Remember, I'm the guy who hit his last rabbit with a .458", 300-grain hollowpoint.......
