Wenger Beauty - Traveller in Red Alox
on: June 27, 2012, 12:44:57 AM
Came across this beauty while I was looking for the blue Europa version, can't say I'm too unhappy about having to settle for this one.  This one is an advertisng knife though. I have no information on it, but I like it.

I have a blue version of the Gawain (not sure if that's its name). Never seen a red one. Great find!  :tu:

Hi, I remember you showing us the blue 'Gawain' just recently.  Now I need to find one of those and the blue alox Europa version.  The red one is a very nice shade.

It's great that after a few years of collecting and researching these one can still come across some great new ones or variations.  Maybe one day I'll find a couple of those Alox handled Vic 91mm models.

There are three full-size versions of of the Europa or Europe; a 6-blade (Commander) with plastic handles, a 7-blade (Traveler) with plastic handles and a key chain, and a 7-blade version with smooth alox handles.

I showed the Galahad (?) with the stag recently. I also have a Gawain (?) with a seated Britannia, similar the the design on some older British coins. Not sure if the names apply to these versions.

Here is the bottom scale with the Advertising logo on it.  Anyone Recognize it?

WOW! This is a beauty
... like all the smooth Alox knives.

Unfortunately I have no idea about the logo.

Here is another Wenger Alox Traveler; this one has seen a few miles.  I think someone may have shown this recently, maybe before placing it on ebay.  It's a little rough, but still kickin'.

That red one is a beauty
Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time

Here's a better shot (repost) of the Eddie Bauer with pale gold-colored alox handles. Wenger's name for this blade combination is Adventurer. The alox Dynasty version is Galahad. Don't know what Bauer called it.

Here's another Wenger alox series - Family Life by R. Vallotton Sauvy.

The design is repeated on the back side.

Life - pale gold
Wedding - dark gold
Childhood - pale blue

Family - orange
Adolescence - pale green
Old Age - silver

A couple of minor corrections:

The artist's name is Anne-Marie Vallotton-Saugy. Tried to read it off a knife with a magnifying glass.

'Life' should be 'Birth'.

The knives were sold both individually and in boxed sets.
