Yet another update . . . well, not much of one

I contacted SOG a little over a week ago and the situation had not changed.  I had planned to call again this afternoon, but my plans got interrupted.  I'll give it another shot tomorrow and hope to have better news to report.

Progress report.

(Please note the change from the standard, attention-grabbing, opening line from "Update".)

Yes, indeed patient members and friends.  I do indeed have progress to report.

I spoke with my contact at SOG this afternoon and the latest word is that they should receive PowerDuos on or about September 15.  Further, she said she should be able to fill our order out of that shipment.

I also learned that that while we expected PowerDuos to be available to us in July, they have had more demand than supply.  While she expressed her undying affection for Multitool.org, there have been bigger names on the other line waiting for PowerDuos too.(I'm guessing that our order, while significant to us, is not quite as significant as some other, larger, commercial accounts.)

With a more or less firm arrival date, I went ahead and committed the funds to the order.  Once I have PowerDuos in hand, I will work with those who still need to pay and those who need to cover shipping costs for their pieces.

If all goes well, my next report will be the arrival of the PowerDuos.

Again, thank you all for your patience.

Latest news:

I emailed my contact at SOG yesterday to check the status of our order.  She said she was putting it through to shipping today.  The PowerDuos were due to arrive yesterday or today.

I received a note late today that the PowerDuos were being held up in customs, so it would be a couple more days before our order gets processed.

More news when I have some or when the tools arrive.

It appears we are closer to having PowerDuos than we have been before.  I had a brief series of emails with my contact at SOG yesterday and today.  The last word I had around 5:00 pm today was that there was some uncertainty as to whether there was enough stock to fill our order or not, but she would try and keep me informed.

When I came online a few minutes ago I had an updated invoice from SOG and a notice from UPS that shipping information had been transmitted and a tracking number.  With the time difference between the US East Coast and Pacific Northwest, the package may have actually shipped today.  However, I am not counting on it, but I will be tracking progress over the next few days.

I will update further when the tools arrive or I have valuable information.

At Last. . .

The PowerDuos have reached me from SOG!  The box was delivered on Tuesday.  I worked late and didn't get home in time to do anything with them other than open the box to make sure of what was inside.

Tonight I looked them over a little bit.  Having briefly compared one of each version, I think I prefer the black.  The silver is kind of neat with see-through scales, but the black one I handled seemed to suit my taste more.

Both tools had hair popping sharp, lockback blades.  I particularly like that they are straight edged and not part serrated.  The scale shape is very similar to the Victorinox 111mm models, but with the blade on the opposite end.  The wide part of the grip provides a small finger guard.  It is interesting that all of the blades/tools lock.

I was reminded very much of the ToolLogic SL Plier while looking at the Black PowerDuo.  There's a good bit of similarity in the concept, but the PowerDuo has more to offer in tool selection and apparent quality.  The SL Plier is a little more pocket-able with the clip, but it has the combo edge blade and less robust seeming tools.

I think Grant mentioned that he would like to have seen a pocket clip, I agree.  The PowerDuo seems to beg for pocket carry.  The SOG sheath seems to be oversized, but it holds the PowerDuo well.  Considering the edge on the blades I felt, the extra space in the sheath might be a good place for some Band Aids!

Now, Group Buy details:

I will be sorting out the orders over the next few days.  Some members paid and included shipping.  Some did not.  Some are waiting for me to send them a shipping estimate.  I will be sorting this all out over the next few days.

If you ordered and fit into any of the three categories above and want to send me a reminder PM that I can compare with my EDCSource records, I wouldn't mind.  After all these months of waiting for the tools, my notes, records and memory can use some refeshing.

As of right now, my plan is to work on it as much as I can the remainder of the week and the weekend.  I'd like to get some if not all of the tools in the mail next week.

I may have a piece or two available once the preorder pieces have been distributed.  If so, they will be listed in The Multitool.org Store at EDCSource.com.

The first group of PowerDuo packages went into the mail yesterday.  If all goes well, the next group will go out on Friday.  More pieces will be mailed next week.

If you have questions about your order or have information you think I need, please send it via PM.  If you requested PowerDuos by PM or placed a pre-order and haven't paid yet, please send me a PM reminder and I will get back to you.

The only 2 negatives I have encountered were:
1-my big thumbs don't fit well in the main blade's locking mechanism.
2- testing the wirecutters by chopping my insulin syringes. Theb syringes were sliding out of the wirecutters  So I had to apply some "counter preasure" to make the wirecutters cut the syringes in half.

Other than that, so far so good  :tu:

I also already received my PowerDuo...
My black PowerDuo is very nice, I will EDC and see how good works,

but here are my first comments..

1.-Altougth the PowerDuo fits good in the shealth, it looks bigger for the size, no a problem with just a comment.
2.-The system to unlock the tools (screw drivers, can opener) is a little bit hard, no difficult it is hard.
3.-The tweezers no match when closed.

Other than that, so far happy with my MT.

I'm still curious about this tool.  Does anyone that has one, also have a powerlock or similar?  I just want to know if the general quality is similar, or if this feels like a 'cheaper' tool.

Just got my PowerDuo, thanks again, Travis!

After opening the box, my excitement turned to disappointment. The fit and finish of this tool is quite bad.

1. Tweezers are terrible
2. The scales are warped
3. The lock release for tools is almost impossible to use because of how stiff it is.

Positive: it's much smaller than I thought it would be

Will post pictures later.

I'm glad to know the package arrived safely.  I'm sorry to learn the PowerDuo isn't up to par.

I've looked at a sample of each style, but have not examined each tool before it is packed and shipped.  The examples I've seen seemed to be OK, but I did not go through them as closely as I'm sure the rightful owner would.

While I didn't have the problems that some of the other guys did, I will say my PowerDuo doesn't feel cheap per se, but it does seem to feel a bit cheaper than the PowerLock simply because of the plastic parts.  I can't say that it's an actual quality issue as my scaled aren't warped or anything, I just don't care for plastic on a tool as a general rule.  The obvious exception being the SwissGrip which is just solid, even if the handle scales were made from cream cheese.

Gotcha.  Ya I dont care for plastic on the tools at all.  I picked up a powerassist this week on sale, and while I love it, I was a bit sad to see this big plastic part between the assist blades.
