Gerber MP600 US Military Issue Multi Pliers
on: July 04, 2012, 04:37:10 AM
I just picked up five of these Gerber MP600 US Military Issue Multi Pliers. :tu: Most with the ACU shealth and one with a Coyote Brown sheath.  My wallet is getting lighter, :ahhh but these are neat.  I really like the MP600 series. They are my favorite Gerber Multi-Pliers.

5  :o :D 8) 8) 8), the MP400-600 series sure are nice & very solid MTs.
It would be cool if the US put some kind of military ID markings on their issued MTs

It sure would be.  I've owned several of the BO MP600s.  One was definitely US Army issue, but was identical to the civilian ones.  Either way they're great tools, one of my favorites.  :tu:

I agree a US Military logo would be very cool.  The only real way to know its military is to buy from Soldiers with the military ACU, Coyote Brown, or Multicam ballistic nylon sheath.  It's the sheath thats the real deal.  Gerber calls it "Berry Compliant Sheath" version for the US military.

The Berry Amendment (USC, Title 10, Section 2533a), requires the Department of Defense to give preference in procurement to domestically produced, manufactured, or home-grown products, most notably food, clothing, fabrics, and specialty metals.

Even a ID number would be cool , like that found on the Aussie Army Swisstools that used to be issued.

The Gerber 'Operation Iraqi Freedom' are very cool

That serial numbered Australian Army Swiss tool looks interesting..does any one have one  and can possibly answer a question? I notice it seems to have a ruler on it..and it looks like it's in inches ? Is this correct ? I'm asking, because here in Oz we have been operating on the METRIC system since the 1960's and an imperial-type ruler seems odd. Maybe there's a metric one elsewhere on the tool ?

If you turn the tool over it is metric on the other side.

I've owned both, and regularly carry either an issue one or my Pro Scout.  I've never noticed any quality difference between the two.  The MP600 is a great tool in any form.  :tu:

Quality is the exact same.  One just lacks a military history. :salute:

Thanks Jerseydevil and DIYMultiTool. I did some searching with the tool numbers and you can find the government issue tools out there. My volunteer fire department ID cant pass as a gov ID in the gerber PRO program.

In reply to Terry. Ive used the tool at work, co workers and myself are in a love hate relationship with them.  One employee is a big fan of the removable handle with the knife/guthook/driver with one bit, cause its gone.(its not me)That handle in its self is a very cool feature. The cable dawg brand new was flawless untill we all broke them in. It makes bad terminations, knicks copper. The company has sent them back and recived new/fixed/refurbished ones.Still the same issue.

We just think heavy use put everything out of alignment. The CAT5 sheath desheather and wire cutter still does its job well after alot of use. Out of the five in the shop, they all have their quirks. Go easy on the screw cutter. That is another factor to misalignment of the 300 dollar MT. The RJ45 crimper gets dodgey after alot of use. Keep the cable dawg clean too. The spring and crimper dosent like dirt, debris.

They are company tools and sadly we beat on them. Our personal telecom, data tools are put on the backburner when we can use the cable dawg. Only to keep our tools in peak condition. The owners know this and do respect that we put our pay into good personal tools to complete the jobs that makes the company profit.

You can get a good set of telecom tools for less than 300 fiat paper notes. The dedicated tools give you a better quality of work. The cable dawg is a good all around trade MT if TLC is applied. Its yer buddy on ladders, lifts, crawl spaces ect. For home use or small jobs rock this tool out. I'll be PO'ed if this tool is like 50 bucks with the PRO program discount. Plus gerber should just hand out tools to Vets. :salute:

I was curious about the CAT5 and RJ45 crimper quality. I'll just stick with the dedicated tools I have for my needs. BTW, it's only discounted to $263 on the PRO discount.

I know the difference now. Taxes pay for the government issue tools. Im surprised my mp didnt come with an inspection card. Notifying me under proper use its harder to poke out yer eye with a blunt plier.

Sorry to resurrect an old post but today I finally got a Gerber MP600 camo sheath , it’s only taken me 14 years  :D, I’m so happy I was able to get one  , I got the green one with MP600 around 4 years ago from a Government surplus store.
