...you're looking on fleabay for a cheap multitool fix and you see people advertising cheap pieces of chinese made crap as Leathermans. (Or 'Like Leatherman' 'Leatherman style') These mainly being cheap knock-offs of the PST.

I mean we all know how to spot a knock-off well enough we can spot them coming off the factory in Beijing, but there are people out there who will buy these bits of tat and think they're getting the genuine article, or at least a close approximation of it.

Here's a perfect example: Cheap bit of tat passed off as a Leatherman.

Now, an uninformed friend or family member might see that and think "Oh, flapjackboy's into those Leatherman thingies, that'll make a great birthday/christmas present." and buy it, not knowing that I'd rather gnaw my own arm off at the shoulder than use something that cheap and nasty.

For years I was given crap like that, by well meaning relatives and friends , get's quite hard to smile when gazing at the POS for the first time

Yeah knock-offs are evil   It is very bad when people try and fob them off as Leathermans just as you said flapjack.

I had a knock-off SAK a couple of years back that was hanging around doing nothing in a cupboard downstairs. I decided to destroy it and bent the blade with my hands. It was that soft it bent at 90deg angle and the silver coloured coating peeled off to reveal copper for the blade!!  I think I just stamped on it and threw it in the bin where it belonged.

Aye, unfortunately the british market is saturated with cheap rubbish like that, and for some people its their only exposure to a multitool

WELL there is a ton of them on ourside also. You could report them for years to Fleabay and never make a dent. I just hope people do a little research into them before buying.

This is fairly new for the Leatherman people. Us Swiss Army Knife fans have been putting up with "Swiss army style knives for decades. And has been mentioned, I wonder how many people out there have negative opinions about SAK's because of a POS imitation they had 20 years ago.

This one takes the cake though. He's wanting £4 including postage for something I can pick up in my local 99p shop.

I've been tempted to go there and buy one, just so that I can give a review on how utterly crap it is.
