Victorinox 1954 Catalog
on: July 06, 2012, 12:14:43 AM
Someone (sorry I can't remember who) on here or SOSAK photographed this catalog in August 2010 in Switzerland at Victorinox's museum or store and they had it dated 1954.

Very cool. I had never heard of ELSENID scales before.
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

This scale material is mentioned in the Evolution of the Officer model section of Young's
SAK Owner's Manual:
"Victorinox called this plastic Elsenid ((preceding Cellidor)) - it was cut into rectangles and pressed into molds to make the scales."

Not really, but we do know there was an identical German language one.  I've tried the search, and google, and cannot seem to come up with the 2010 post that photographed this same catalog.  I was hoping someone would remember seeing it be able to find the post.  Maybe it was +B that photographed it, but I could not find it anywhere.

Brilliant photographs! Thanks for sharing them.

I particularly like the pencil sharpener and the vegetable peeler SAKs.

Are they failed prototypes or one-offs?

They were titled prototypes and because we never saw one of them in real life (at least I didn't) they are failed prototypes.  :D

I wonder why they failed. A peeler is a great tool to consider - very useful.

I can see that the pencil sharpener would just be doubling up on a blade and not so useful, but great to see!
