I have cared more about the Olympics in the past than now, which I kind of ignore as possible.
Modern olympics got a bad start in first place: the whole "olympic spirit" is a disgraceful BS! When sport started to go generally pro and they finally had to admit it, it stopped to make sense.

Some of you complained about how investment was made in London: that's because Olympics mandates the organization to be at CITY level and not at country level -- it was Sydney 2000, not Australia, Atlanta 96, not USA, and so forth. That's just another hypocrisy, because it is the whole country which ends organizing and paying the event.

I missed it all unfortunately. Tried looking online for a vid of the ceremony, but can't find one that shows anything more than a few seconds  Anyone got a link?

The opening ceremony was pretty bizarre but had some great moments.

The Olympics will probably kill off our old TV set,  doubt it will get much off time during the games.  Credit to the BBC, I think that pretty much every event will be transmitted.  So we'll probably wear out the freeview box remote as well :D

I won't be going to any of the events in person but my brother has tickets and is far too excited about it for a grown man ::) :)

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

OK, glad to know I'm not the only one who was confused.

Looked like a great big potlatch to me.

It was certainly a very British story, maybe to much so for a global audience.  Had to laugh at Mr Bean playing in Chariots of Fire though. :D

I was enjoying the history of British music, but was a little dismayed to see it jump from the 1980's to the 2010's

It was even more bizarre here in the US what with them trying to make it look like it was happening live and then cutting parts of the ceremony.  Very strange overall...

There are other stories of things that were cut from the American broadcast.

Uh, I'm sorry, but a BADMINTON scandal?   The sad part to me is that Gore Vidal died and the top story on the news was badminton players not playing their best.....

Yeah, the Olympics have totally taken over all news here as well.  We're less than a week in and even I (as a general sports fan) am feeling a little overloaded.  :-\

I've always liked the Olympics, but unfortunately can't get much TV time now... I've heard our gymnast Jordan Jovchev has qualified for the finals and also that our volleyball team killed Poland and Australia and is moving forward too. At least something to compensate for our hopeless football in general :D :D

Yes, I was lucky enough to watch some nice young ladies in their bikinis play voleyball this evening at the beach and none of them made any hand signals...

Yes, I did... I was only annoyed I did not have a camera on me as I did not intend to go snorkeling or picture taking this evening..  maybe tomorrow...

If you're interested in some Equestrian "highlights", you should watch Day 1 of Dressage competition starting at 2:42 in the live stream feed.  The unfortunate Canadian rider.
