WARNING-NECROTHREAD REVIVAL!!!

I know it's been 7 months since some kind of action had been seen here but, I had to have at least one representative of the SOG group; from what I'd seen, it was the PowerLock that got my attention and, finding one B61 "discounted" helped my decision making. Love the burnished stainless steel, the smoothness of the pliers mechanism, the ability to open/close the pliers Balisong-style and, that compound leverage is pretty awesome. The nylon sheath that came with the tool can fit the bit kit along with the PowerLock (although I made a "divider" so that the bits don't come out or get on the way as I return the tool) and it's not too obstrusive. The tool's driver are good, as are the openers (and liking a lot the awl!). On the other end of the spectrum, the scissors struggle cutting even string/threads, particularly if using just the tip; the combo knife, although razor sharp, if flexes considerably. Wood saw blade is good, but I find quite short (reminds me of the cutting area of the Surge' curting area). The bit driver is nice but, it's difficult to use at 90 degrees as the cover does not have a cutout for it to pass thru, havinh either to remove the cover or keep the tool fully open! The file, although not even on par to Gerber's MP standards, the double cut side is good (the single side is pretty good on my fingernails; take that, PAD!) But the "cutting/deburring edge" is non functional in mine; it feels more like a rough edge than a cutting surface. My only grieve is that, unlike Vic's Swisstools or most Leathermans (Leathermen!?!?), I can't open the handles "180degrees" to use the tool as a long, center driven screwdriver. But, I think its a pretty good tool in all and I'm beginning to appreciate it. So, here it is!!!!

Does anyone reading this know how to date these tools? Can't find a date code on the tool itself or the box.

That Powerlock looks pretty nice.  I got a used older Powerlock that was a little too used.  One side now fails to lock under minimal tension.  Just wondered how well your Powerlock locks?

Thank you, Hvac. To tell you the truth, I'm OK with it; contrary to what most reviews say, mine locks solidly all tools from either handle ( and I even tapped/banged the spine of blade, saw, file) and, although with a very fine cut, the single and double cut file are adequate (the edge one is another story). Maybe because it might be a late production?I also like very much the burnished finish over my Wave's or MP's matte finish. The only things that I'm not very fond of are: the combo blade's chisel cut bevel grind, how thin and flexible the knife is, and the scissors. BUT, for anyone looking for an exonomical multi and who aill be using the blade and scissors secondary or as back up tools, I wholeheartedly recommend the Powerlock.

I don't think you will find a good value on a black tip, but if you do, and they have more than one, please let me know.

Just in case this might interest you, Alan; ATM, I'm tending my mother's medical condition and out of expendable budget so unable to acquire it. Hope that if it isn't you, someone here @ MT.o gets it.  :tu:

Thanks Powernoodle!

My pleasure, sir.  I haven't carried a Powerlock in a good while and want to do that.  I used to carry one a lot.  They open up super smooth, and I love the compound leverage plier head.

I forgot how smooth they open.  They've always been a solid tool that gets the job done.

Out playing while I am carrying the OHT for the challenge.  Powerlock with a couple of friends and an old SOG patch reproduction from the early '80's.

Thanks PN!
Edit: Not that the standard Powerlock is small by any means, but that is ONE BIG TOOL!!

I've read that the ones with the hex bolts were American made. I don't remember where I read it, but always thought it was true.

I did too Murph.  Mine accidentally fell into my car's trash bag from the center console.  I looked and looked and it's the only thing I could figure out that happened to it.  It was an Army issued Power Lock withe the flat black canvas sheath.  I missed it for years until Powernoodle gifted me a new one just recently.  I feel like my universe is right again

I'd love to pick up an American model again.  That Paratool of yours caught my eye though.... welcome to the place where you go from one EDC to having to give serious thought to what you want to carry for the day
