I cant decide either.  On my power lock they've been on and off half a dozen times.  If im wearing shop gloves I dont notice the digging in, but bare handed they arent the most comfortable with no covers.   So... I dunno.

I removed the covers from the SOG PowerLock and PowerAssist almost immediately because they are more trouble than they are worth.  The PPP doesn't even have handle covers.  The compound action of the SOG pliers lets you grip items with less force than other multitools so the SOG handles don't hurt my hands.

The PowerAssist's knife lock levers chafe my hands more than the handle edges.

yeah i have to say that its never bothered me on models like the LM pst ,supertool,st300 and sogs ppp as i carry that a lot, so i can see me removing these for good, i think i just wanted to give them a chance,  :tu:

My personal conclusion on these handles is simple, for me if they was more solidly fixed on and possibly went a little way further up the handle to widen even more of the handle comfort wise i would keep them on but i see me only removing them because they pop off  :-\ now if i could fix them on better i might keep them but i dont think that would be a easy fix,

The PowerAssist has only one handle cover and it is designed to stay on tighter.  But, it remains a hindrance to fast tool access and the pliers can get stuck inside the opening of the cover.

Covers, be gone!   :D

I've been grooming my Powerlock this week in anticipation of carrying it. For me the tool covers are entirely unnecessary. My reasoning:

First, they increase the time and effort in retrieving the tools. Picture the scenario: you're on a ladder. You need a Phillips but you must keep one hand on the ladder or the object on which you're working. Without the covers it IS possible (though tricky) to get the tools out of the handle with one hand. I found the covers kept trying to close or bound the tool when I tried to use one hand.

Second: If SOG's hype is to be believed, the compound leverage gives the pliers added compression and gripping ability. So, it follows that you don't have to squeeze as hard on the handles to achieve the same compression as, say, a Supertool. Therefore, the handles sans covers should be sufficient for most chores. I've tried them and find them no more uncomfortable than my second-generation Supertool or my Swisstool.

Third: It's my understanding (at least this is what I've read on a couple of forums) that SOG shortened the knife blade and saw to allow them to clear these blasted covers. I would have preferred the uncovered handles with longer, larger knife and saw.

No handle covers for me.

Regards!
