Darn you guys-I got the itch now
on: February 22, 2008, 07:56:08 PM
I have no need for it, but after reading all of those posts on the Farmer I just ordered one.

I hope this will be a great knife, I only got it for $15.00 brand new in that metal red (I like the red), and I didnt have to pay shipping charges at Amazon. I guess if your a new member they give you a free month trial-two-day shipping membership.

Dont worry, I made sure that I went in there and canceled the auto pay thing so they dont charge me anything next month.

So, you got the Red one and not the Silver one? And you only got one?  Interesting.  :D

Though I am not a SAK junkie. I will tell ya the fav. knife I have bought in years has been my Farmer. I feel it is the best bang for the buck. Besides spydie native.

I stand by the pioneer.

I don't need no stinking saw,
For all intents and purposes they're the same size, so you might as well have the saw.

Any bigger it would be too big for a lot of peopel to pocket carry; the Farmer is just the right size.

I would however like to see a design with an added file.

it is one less layer and that could mean more comfort in your pocket. but I like the saw myself, see!

Whether you need the saw or not, it is a great thing to have simply because it adds a little bit of thickness to the knife that makes it much more comfortable in the hand.  I was hooked on three layer ALOX models after getting my first, which I think was actually an Electrician Plus model, not a Farmer.  Needless to say, it didn't take long to get the rest of them after that! :D

Yummy.  Vintage ALOX.  ;)

That Pioneer has the nice unpolished tools too.

Yep, that's how they are.  Take a close look at the spine of the knife--it should be unpolished.

From how all of you guys are talking, I'm really gonna like this knife being a hunter and all.

The only thing that I was a little disappointed to hear was that there were no tweezers or toothpick on the model that I bought. I guess its not that bad though because I will still carry my MINI CHAMP on my keyring.

I too miss the tweezers and toothpick(and scissors). I used to carry a Classic, then a Wenger PTC, then a Vic Executive on my keyring or in another pocket for those tools. Nowadays, I just carry a dedicated pair of tweezers(1st link below) and a folding pair of scissors on my keychain and a couple of "flossers" in the pocket in my wallet. Not that there's anything wrong with the small SAK's but these don't take up much room and are better than the smaller implements on the knives.

These are by far the best tweezers I've ever had, plus if a 6 dollar pair of tweezers last you the rest of your life I would consider it a bargain.

Indeed! I used to have another pair I got with a pocket first aid kit but I think the Fiance took them because of how good they were!

They have those at Lee Valley and I keep meaning to get a set.  Last week Inky was raving about them so I guess now I have to...

A lot of thread jacking goes on on this forum. I like that the moderators dont say anything. On other forums that I have joined the mods yell at you and send you a nasty PM.

Don't worry about it.  I always say that a discussion is a living thing and needs to go it's own way.

Plus neither myself nor any of the mods know how any of the forum controls work! :P
