How would you make a Cadet II?

Say you wanted the toolset Recruit with the alox scales from a Cadet, what would be the easiest and cheapest way to do this?

Grab a recruit for the small blade with 2.2mm pivot hole.  Disassemble cadet, and reassemble with recruit blade.  You need 2.2 mm pin stock for all the holes on 84s.  Used recruits are pretty low cost, so that's going to be your lowest cost option.

Or you could ask bushido, syph007, or myself to help. Just an FYI ;)
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Thanks guys! I've only done 58mm mods so I wanted to give the bigger sizes a go. I certainly hope peening is easier with these

I'm having a little trouble deciding what to do right now though since I saw the mini farmer w/ scissors that Harryf3 made again. The combo file/awl looks amazing, not to mention useful.  What do you guys usually use awls for? I'm tempted to go that direction, but I've never really had a need for an awl.

Awls are useful for scribing, hole poking, etc. I love em, some don't. It's really what u need. :)

These beads were made with the awl.  Well the center was punched out.  And I used the sharp edge around the outside as a kind of sander to smooth it a little.

I really want to give awls a try, so I think I'll do Harryf3's mod. No more backside awl's for me, I actually sliced myself when one snapped back into my finger when I was using it.  ::) If it doesn't work I'll just go ahead and replace it with a small blade.

Just a question for those with the 93mm awl, can that thing slice clamshell packaging?

Maybe if you sharpen it. I don't use it for that. Also some grinding is in order to make it sit correctly. Ask syph007 about that one ;).

One thing Ive been wondering but dont know yet.  Is the small blade from the 84 smaller than a small blade from a 91?  I have plenty of 91 small blades around that could go for cadet II mods, but Id have to grab some recruits for the small blade if the 91 mm small blade didnt fit.

I have no idea, but I imagine that you could fit it if you added a spacer right?

Yes, the 84mm blade is smaller than the 91mm - not sure by how much though.

Reviving this nice old thread.

I have a question :
Where could I find torx screws for that mod so that I easily try my hand first time in modding?
Also how easy would it be to remove the keyring without it leaving a mark at all?

Knifekits.com has 1/8" pivot pins that use the torx screws to secure them. You'll need to be prepared to drill out the tools, liners, springs and the scales to accomodate the increased size of the pivots (2.2mm stock pins versus ~3.18mm with the new pivots).
