Leatherman's 30th Anniversary Model??
on: July 29, 2012, 06:21:34 AM
I was thinking how next year marks Leathermans 30th Anniversary, so with that in mind I am hoping that they may do another anniversary model.  I wonder what it would be/should be.

I would love them to do a stainless steel scaled deluxe Juice model with a pocket clip (similar to the one J-Sews almost made).

I like the special edition Waves  8) 8) a) because I can almost afford them  ::) :D & b) they are pretty cool  :D. I wish I could spring for the super special Charges but they are just a bit too rich for me  :( :(

I think the 30th Anniversary should be the Wave and Charge.  But I think the tool needs a more stylish version of the Rebar Pliers...maybe make them out of a better quality steel and eliminate some the bulkiness of the Rebar pliers on the sides.  Damascus knife blades and a iridescent TiNi hard coating on the pliers and handles....along with Tim Leatheman's signature would be great.  And a decent cap lifter instead of a can opener!  Change the saw for a pair of scissors like the Surge scissors.

A special sheath along the lines of the Damascus Wave sheath...actually just find the guy/team that designed the Damascus Wave and turn them loose.  The Damascus Wave is a fantastic tool and really a head turner.  The 30th needs to have that kind of appeal.

The other thing Leatherman needs is to establish the Leatherman Collector Club, not some Facebook crap a real club with dues and special offers for the members.  Note to Leatherman take a look at the Buck Collectors Club!  Special offers only to club members and some custom refurbishment services for Club Members Only! for a fee we don't expect something for nothing.  Add in some custom builds like the Buck Custom shop from their California Days.   Have a raffle now and then for charity and raffle off a prototype tool.  And why doesn't Leatherman add a first production run sale to the club members.  Leatherman needs to establish the Collector Club and then turn it over to the members with support and guidance for the club.

Bruce

Not that I'm likely to buy one, but to my mind it would only make sense to stick with the Wave.

They will probably stick with the Wave. Because it will sell more. It would be nice for a change.    :)

I like the PST idea, but I think a Wave is more realistic, keeping their cost, production & sales in mind. I think a PST anniversary edition would come in at a more cornerstone anniversary like the 50th, since they would have to adjust their machines, production lines, etc.

The 30th Anniversary Leatherman is going to be the Supertool 300 and the Micra both with a DLC (or something) coating.

I for one am very disappointing that the Wave (or PST) was not the 30th tool.

What does everyone else think?

What if that Micra had pliers, and scissors, with a complimentary toothpick?

:pok:  Or micro-replaceable wire cutters on the pliers?

LM 30th anniversary should be affordable and usable, but unique.
Liked the Bruce :tu: idea about ST300 with DLC coating (nice skele...

or a Rebar- means the 'reference 'bar' for multitool had been raised with 30th Anniversary...!

I like the idea of the PST, or PST II even.  It would be cool if they did it with the Rebar (modern PST) too, but I already have that, and wouldn't get the same model if I already own one.  I doubt I'd be able to get the 30th anniversary tool, regardless of which one it was due to lack of funds for the forseeable future :( >:(

A specialized multitool that snapped into and out of a belt buckle. With the motto, Leave Nothing Undone there (hence the buckle...).

Well in that case, I may have to get me a Micra.  I've considered getting one a couple times and just ended up getting something else each time.  As long as the anniversary version isn't too expensive, I may just have to pick one up.

Lesson learned: Read the entire post before making OTW comments.  :twak:

Since the Special Edition 2009 Micra there were many comments on where to get one. Leatherman did not advertise them much. Only found out about them after I won one. They are an affordable option I suppose.

ST300 though... hmm... must be due to its starting the evolutionary stage of the tools with them user-replaceable wire cutters.
Note: The user-replaceable cutters use a Torx #8 wrench. No wrenches are included with the tool. The replacement sets do include them.

Do you know if this is the same for the Rebar's cutters?

Looked at the Leatherman's Hardware page before posting. Seems all (Fuse, MUT, Regular) take a Torx #8.

Still don't know why they wouldn't stick to doing a Wave, just for continuity of people's collection if nothing else.
