TiNi Pocket Power Plier
on: April 23, 2011, 07:45:10 PM
Who has one? :) Seems like there are a few variations out there. I was comparing pictures with Allan earlier, and noticed some differences. Here are two, and older one and a newer one.

The newer one (left) has a lighter gold color, has a PATENT #5,809,599 stamp, and is stamped LYNNWOOD, WA (where SOG is now located)

The older one (right) is darker gold, has PAT. PEND. on it, and is stamped EDMONDS, WA (where SOG was previously located) There is also a TiNi Hardcased logo etched on the other handle.

Not to mention, the blade loadouts are entirely different..?

Bob I have a  older Edmonds PPP TiNI that has identical tool load too your older one but does not have the 'TiNi Hardcased' etching. On close inspection it appears my one has a combination coating. The plier head & one handle side is dark & the opposite handle is a lighter color  . I thought the tool had just faded a bit as the coloring is a little patchy but yeh defiantly a mix of TiNi Dark v Light.

Bob none of my other TiNi SOG's have the 'TiNi Hardcased' on them , I think you have a rare one there mate

An odd thing Mat, my older Edmonds one has the same darker/lighter arrangement as yours does. I don't think this was intentional though. Probably more due to inconsistant batch quality of the titanium nitride treatment.

Thanks David :tu:

Including the serrated blade instead of a file seemed odd to me at first. ??? But then I thought maybe they were targeting this tool at mariners, who would probably appreciate the serrated sheepsfoot and the more corrosion resistant Tini finish. :)

Bob, I got an Edmonds, Wa. TiNi P3 this week. The observations from this thread hold true with this example also. Except there is no TiNi hardcased etching on it.    :)
