Spyderco Dragonfly2 Salt
on:
August 15, 2012, 01:48:23 AM
Ordered my first Spyderco today, the Dragonfly2 Salt in yellow with a full serrated H1 steel blade. I've only handled a Spyderco at a shop once, so I'm excited to use it and adapt to it. I also am excited for a rust free blade. We do a lot of water sports in the summer time, and I usually buy a cheap knife ($5 or less from gas station) to wear in my swimsuit, just to toss after a week in the water. I'm hoping with the right care this knife will last many summers.

Your going to love the dragonfly in h1 serrated.
I've heard nothing but good thiNgs about h1 in serrated. It gets harder than almost all other steel's at the knife edge. It will be a great knife to carry and use.
Good Score.
I like the Yellow but I'm going to dye a H1 yellow to orange when I get my hands on one.

I was hoping for black, or any other less obnoxious color but for now that's all that's available in that size. I plan on wearing a swimsuit while I carry this so I didn't want to go with a 4"+ body. The size is perfect and it's the smallest I could find that included a pocket clip.

Well you could always dye it with RIT dye if it's that big of an issue.

IT's not a huge issue at all, however, I am interested in the process. Is there a link to a good read?

I'm sure someone will drop you a good link.
I'll take a look at spydercoforums tonight if nobody can find something for you.
I'm sure I've seen it done on there.
It's very easy to do. I did a blue endura not long ago.

I'll probably leave the yellow, with use in the marine environment, it might come in handy with higher visibility.

Make a FRN dye jod thread.

I carry a yellow pacific salt (yellow was on sale) for sport and don't mind the color, probably easier to find if I ever drop it.
The DF2 will serve you well I'm sure.

I have a plain edged Dragonfly H1 in my pocket now. Great little knife. Lightweight but will do most daily cutting task.

All the more reason to pick up a regular black Dragonfly 2 or a Foliage Green G-10 Dragonfly and switch the scales out.

Got the little guy in the mail today, what a gem. I can already tell we are going to be great friends.
For how light it is & easy to deploy, it might make it's way into EDC rather than just my intended water/recreation carry. Time will tell.

I'm... going to go against the grain a little bit here and say I don't really like H1. I live on the coast and I've never had problems with VG10 rusting, and side by side comparisons between my original Ladybug Hawkbill and H1 Hawkbill were a no contest. The VG10 Ladybug cut circles around the H1.
However, if you absolutely must have non-rusting in a production knife, H1 is far and away the best option out there.
