...am I really the only one who would be interested to see how that charging socket is done?  :o

No.  I have some very small circuits that will properly charge Li-Ion cells in a setup like this, but I'm very interested in how this NiMH charging circuit works.

:ahhh WOW guys and girls, it's only a maglite!

The socket is easy really. Two wires on the inside wired to the battery pack. Plug in charger when battery pack is flat, red light.....hours later green light, and away we go.

But.......I became concerned that the socket is always conected to the battery pack. If a metal object were to short between the centre pin and the outside case it would cause a problem.

So today I fitted a diode on the inside that should stop the voltage in one direction but still let the voltage pass in from the charger. It half works. Now I have no voltage in the centre pin, but when I conect the charger it won't work!  Back to the drawing board, and reading a bit more about diodes.

It's not all that powerful, about 500 lumens max (it has high/med/low), and it's all flood, smooth seemless flood, pure white.

So, the circuitry is all in the AC adapter then.  What type of charge termination is that charger/AC adapter using?

So, the circuitry is all in the AC adapter then.  What type of charge termination is that charger/AC adapter using?

The charger is like the type used for RC car battery packs. I've swapped the tamiya connection to a 5mm plug that goes into the socket in the tail cap. The diode was messing with the charger so I took it out. The charger is a "clever" charger, when turned on it has a way of telling how many cells are in the battery pack and sets the charge rate to suit. I think the diode introduced a little resistance that messed it up. Electronics is not my strong point.

:waving:  Hello Powernoodle, like your lights.

Ah, hobby charger.  That makes sense!

I would ditch the diode idea and just find a rubber plug or something that fits the hole in the charge socket.  I'd say the possibility of getting a metal object far enough in there is pretty slim.

My first pictures of my lights. I dont monitor my run times ect... and the better lights are new to me so I dont think I can answer any questions about them. I can tell you that the big mags have one watt led in them, and the olight m31 is 800LUM. and much brighter than the others. The fenix and the lumapower I recieved from other members and they are both fantastic lights. They will get much use this year at our late night camp fires and my hunting adventures.

Here are some pics from my (modest) collection of led-lights  ;).

The Led-Lenser P7 was a gift from my wife, and after being amazed by the quality and feel of this light I bought myself a Led-Lenser P3.  The P3 is (mainly) for indoor use (and EDC), and when I go outdoors or on a hiking trip I will always bring along my P7.

That's a groovy looking light. :tu:  Does it really put out anything like the 270 lumen it claims?  That seems a heck of a lot for a single CR123.

I don't have instruments I could use to measure output, but factory claims 270... Though I believe they aren't OTF lumens... So count on that...
