Farmer and Rally!
on: February 27, 2008, 05:53:39 AM
Knives came today.

I ordered the Farmer (because of its great liking/following around here), and I ordered the Rally (seemed a bit more practical for me than the Classic with the scissors (although I ordered a Classic that'll be here tomorrow too), it has the wire strippers and magnetic-tipped phillips bit instead).

When I don't carry my Swisstool as my main tool, I always exchange my Pioneer for my Farmer.  Can't beat that Victorinox saw.

I dont see any reason not to carry the farmer, my Core (on my belt), and maybe even my Kershaw Scallion at the same time.

Maybe either the Kershaw OR the Farmer.

Did you get a Rally, or a Rambler?  Rambler has the phillips, Rally is the same but has a flat-blade screwdriver on the tip of the magnetic tool.

The Rally has a phillips screwdriver on the tip of the magnetic tool, the flatblade is on the file and is not magnetized.

Am I underequipped with a Pioneer and Classic?  ???

How often do people really use the extras (The saw on Farmer, and I think the Rally has some kind of Cap Lifter/Screwdriver doohickery)

Anyway, minor model differences aside, a "Classic" series and "Pioneer" series makes a great team.

I think the Rover is the same as the Rally but the Rover has a flat headed screwdriver instead of a phillips.  And I think the Rambler is the same as the Rally, but the Rambler has scissors.

I have started carrying my Classic a lot more recently.  It's amazingly smooth for such a little SAK.  I would like to get a Rambler at some point though.
I'm back!!

Yep, you're right.  I have a model that is exactly like the Rambler, but has the flat blade instead of the phillips.  I always thought it was a Rally, but that's not correct.  It turns out that it's a retired model, called the Rogue according to Smartknives:

Anyway, good choices getpower!  I'm sure you'll enjoy them.

The reason I wanted a saw is that I live near thousands of acres of forests. Should I break down in a car or something and have to spend a night in the woods that saw might come in real handy. If I lived in a mainly urban area I probably wouldn't have much use for a saw and would be perfectly happy with a Pioneer or a Soldier.

Of course if the above scenario happened in one of my cars I would already have a saw handy due to the LM Supertool in my car and the SOG Powerlock in my wife's car.

And you think your fortune could be hacking it down and selling the timber?

Maybe a bigger investment than the Farmer is required...
