Wave/Charge major surgery
on: August 28, 2012, 05:43:58 AM
Ok, given all the issues that spring up with those wishbone blade locks in the Waves and Charges, has anyone simply drilled out the retaining rivet and removed the whole assembly? It seems that there is another piece of spring steel underneath that keeps pressure on the locking mechanism, but could that be reattached somehow, possibly with another rivet?  This might make extra room for all sorts of tools inside...

Noooooooo!

The bottom part of that spring is the spring for the tool locks! You are better off grinding the little tab on the wishbone that sticks up into the blade opening hole.

Failing that, you can snap off just the wishbone carefully and all should be fine. Avoid taking out the rivet if you can.
Why stop now?

Thanks, Metropolicity.
I think I'm going to give it a try anyway, though.  All I have to do is find some low profile way of re-securing the tool lock tension spring, then there should be plenty of room for my full-size phillips head without interfering with the Rebar plier heads. I just have to hunt around a bit for something appropriate.  I'll let everyone know if it turns to tragedy.

I found by lifting the fork end of the wishbone as you call it up and back it will pull off the rivet leaving more than enough behind to peen and hold the lock spring in place. You'll be right. Pics or it didn't happen.
