Mini Ratchet Chatter

It's a MultiTool to me.

It can hold a screwdriver bit, a Drill bit and Sockets that's Multi

I use my mini ratchet in my EDC on and sometimes off work because of how handy I think it is.

I have carried a Chapman mini ratchet http://www.chapmanmfg.com/AboutChapmanTools.html for about a year it has done a lot of work and done it well

It's saved me countless trips to my tool box to get a real screwdriver. I can carry 5 or ten bit in my pocket with my ratchet/extender and that covers my needs with out weighing me down,

I'm wondering what Mini ratchets you all have used and how there working for you.

I don't think I would replace mine. I would like to know about other tool's that are like it out there.

Now let's have some ratchet chatter mines got 20 teeth it talks a lot lol

I have a cheap angled head ratched driver ... similar to THIS but from another brand which has worked quite well. I do like the look of that Chapman though

Mini ratchets are great- I have a small no name one that I had planned to cut up and mod into a SOG PowerLock and a Victorinox one. I got as far as cutting up the cheap one but never got around to mounting it yet.

Im on a short break and I got to say I can see one way the Victorinox ratchet is better as a kit. It's got to carry better with it's plastic wrench and bit's holder.

Mine just get's thrown in my pocket like this. Kinda a mess of kit

I'm a fan of the CM-13 too. Great piece of kit.

This is my favourite combo at the moment. CM-13 and MTO bit kit with modified adapter to fit the Leatherman bit driver.

While not exactly a ratchet, I like this one too.

very nice, compact package. I did get a good bit kit and I vary the load out accordingly. Maybe I should get one of those Mutitool.org thingies...

I found some good ones. A titanium-cobalt set from military EOD duties (fixing the robots), a very expensive set of slugging wrenches (which are actually ratchets), and a full set (minus one piece) that I used to repair Abrams tanks. And yes, they're all mini ratchets, made for use in confined spaces. Sadly, Photobucket is giving me a hard time. I'm attempting to load them via ImageShack.

I have a idea for my keychain but I haven't put it together yet. Since I have the 1/4" socket drive I plan on carrying a busted 3/8" swivel on my keys with a 1/4" female 3/8" male socket adapter installed.

Topeak Ratchet Rocket Lite.

In the case. AA battery for size comparison...

The back has a Velcro attachment, and will fit a belt up to 1-1/2" wide...

What you get...

Size...

The strong magnet in the butt is held in with a brass collar...

The finger wheel and reversing lever. The bits can't fall through the back...

Using the finger wheel...

2-1/2" hex bit extension and 2" square socket adapter. These aren't absolutely necessary, but are a welcome addition...

Now I can use 1/4" sockets...

My set-up. There's a bobby pin clipped to the yellow fabric; it acts as a small clamp to remove any stubborn bits. There's a tiny bit of clanking with the extension and adapter, but it's negligible. A Torx T-8 bit is already in the butt of the ratchet...

Pittsburgh Tool (Harbor Freight's brand) mini ratchet. $4 and comes with four bits...

A switch rocks back-and-forth to change directions...

This is a Great Neck tool that I got from that Amazonian place for $10, including nine bits and a bit holder...

It's actually a really nice kit for the money, and gives the Topeak Ratchet Rocket some competition. They're the same length...

The finger wheel is identical in size, shape, material, and markings as the Topeak...

However, the wheel is mounted flush with the head of the ratchet, making turning it a bit bothersome...

The hard rubber sleeve actually pulls off if you use enough force, making the tool even more compact. It goes back on as well...

This is the set-up I use for the Great Neck, although it will work with any mini ratchet. It's the same size as the Topeak Ratchet Rocket Lite, but twice as thick. It will still fit in a shirt pocket.

Dollar store camera case...

The contents...

Laid out. Nine 1/4" square drive sockets, a bit set that I chose plus a 1/4"-hex-to-1/4"-square adapter, the ratchet itself, and a 2-1/2" hex extension...

Standard 1/4" hex bit...

Hex bit plus extension...

With the adapter, I can use 1/4" square bits, including sockets...

It's my own pocket-sized socket set...

Ready to have your mind blown? The extension, plus the adapter, plus a socket!

I looked for a good pocket ratchet a few years ago, and eventually picked up the Chapman one which I think is great. By freak chance I ended up with a Victorinox one shortly after which for me has the edge ergonomically.

They are both really useful little tools though, and I keep one in the basic kit. Usually something along these lines:

I carry just about the same tool's every day.

If you use the chapman and the pocketwrench 2 on the extender you can make a t handel that work's great

The o-ring helps when it's likely to fall the ratchet etc... just found it useful a couple of times so it stayed

Just ordered a Chapman CM-13 Midget Ratchet thanks to this thread. I've been thinking about which pocket ratchet to buy and all the love for that one here helped make my decision.
