Why did you go one piece?

I'm by no means a once piece tool collector, but find room in my edc for one (Piranha usually) now, and couldn't be happier, as I believe they offer a lot of utility for there size/weight :)

What made you come over to the one piece side? :)

I've not really gone that way to be honest.

I had an Gerber Artifact for a while, but didn't use it much. I did get a Gerber Shard which lives in my Micro Tool Tin, and I don't think I've used that much other than for getting the Micra out which is wedged between the Mini and the Harvester. The main function it's done so far is take up a little space to stop stuff rattling  :-\

The only one piece tool I've used recently was a trolley key/bottle opener doofer which Sparky415 gave me at the last meet. Its's got a wrench area in the middle which I used this weekend (along with my 4" adjustable spanner) to put up some dexian shelves  :tu:

Other than that .... I guess I just don't have the need  :)

I like them because the pack a lot of on the fly functionality in a very compact space.  My various Atwoods and Piranha X have essentially forced the CRKT Guppie out of EDC.  Smaller, as good or better as a wrench AND usually getting a prytip/flat driver in the trade.

Oh, and for the real world, I prefer one piece.

I have my Raker Ring tool on my work keys , bloody handy, incredible versatility for something so compact & the bang for your buck would be very hard to beat  .

I was looking for a good gum scraper for work and I was suggested a Paranha and it got me looking into different kinds of one piece tools.

I edc one now to back up my multitool.

Easy to clean, little to break. Simple as that.

I have and enjoy several one piece tools but the ones that really see any work or carry for me are the Raker Ring Tool, Gerber Shard and Piranha.  I have lots of others but few if any really speak to me, and even those are no substitute for a good SAK/multi combo.

The only one-piece tool on my keychain is a CountyComm mini pry bar.  I don't see most one-piece tools fitting all my needs.

I don't think any one tool of any type could suit all one's needs!  At least not an MTO member's needs!

My keychain by definition is a true multitool, with Utili-key, Rambler, 2 LED lights, Prybar, P38 Can opener, and space available for more gadgets!   :D

I have the Piranha and the Brewster.
I don't carry both. Been using the brewster on my keychain for a while and has been handy with opening boxes, beers and similar light prying.

I like the 1-piece pocket tool - compact, bladeless but still useful - thus easy to accomodate in my pocket and also carry-friendly in the UK.

Can't see myself ever buying an Atwood though!

I have a Gerber Shard and a Innovo ShapeTool. I usually carry the Shard even though I like the ShapeTool better because of the blade.
The reason I use a single piece tool is because they are simple and easy to carry with my keys and sometimes I find myself without my edc bag (i.e. without my Skeletool).

Every single time that I take a one piece tool off my keychain that's exactly when I need one. I usually have a need for a one piece tool if only as a scraping tool. Right now I'm carrying a PocketToolX smoke Brewzer and I'm really happy with it. You can use it hard and the price won't break your budget.  :tu: I only wish they would thin the profile of the screwdriver a bit. It is too thick for most screws. Hopefully Leatherman will make that change.
Sometimes change is a good thing, other times not so much!
