^ I've seen a tatt like that too! :D

There's a lot of fun geek tattoos out there. One of many sites dedicated to them: http://www.geekytattoos.com/

(no accounting for taste or quality there BTW!)

You know I actually thought about doing an Ohm symbol instead but no one I know would get it!!!

No one told me about the itching.  Its not bad yet but its only been 24 hours.  From what the interwebs have told me I'm in for it.

Nice Sean!  I have to get my Devils symbol soon.....

For sure!

@nuph, I have been using aquaphor but my boss just gave me a tube of tattoo goo he had in his desk.  Only thing is I don't know how old it is.

@gonzo. This is indeed my first.  And it will definitely not be my last.  I see why these are addicting!!

@derek. Is your swelling down yet?  Mine is over halfway down.  The top of the tat swelled a bit more because the skin was so thin there.

Mine didn't swell too bad, but the skin's still raised a little where the tattoo is.  Mine also hasn't hit the itchy stage yet, but I just noticed that it seems to be getting a little dry.

I forgot to bring some tattoo goo with me to work today, and I'm working a 12hr shift so I'll have to get some put on when I get home.

This is my first, and definitely not my last!!!  I want to get another dragon either in the same spot but on my right arm, or on my forearm.

Those are sweet!  I am planning another tibetan script for my left forearm and I am working on one for my upper left arm/shoulder.  I might get more forearm work done first

Some swelling and heat is normal, but if it gets worse, or develops a rash, discharge or swelling further out, you may have an infection.

Always good to keep an eye on these fresh ones just in case, and go straight to a doc if you are in doubt ;)

The swelling has gone almost completely down now,  and it feels fine.  I've been using aquaphor and it works great.

Good stuff. And when it itches, don't scratch :ahhh

Easiest way to lose ink is to mess with it at this stage, even though it can be very tempting >D:

It got a tad itchy yesterday but I didn't touch it.  I don't want to mess with it, because I really don't feel like getting it redone.  My next one will be on my forearm where there is more meat.

It seems easy not to scratch, but it's only day 3.   :D

@ Derek, are you itching?

Mine's a tiny bit itchy today, but not too bad.  It's also starting to peel a tiny bit, but hardly noticeable yet.

Well it looks like I have to go back in a few weeks to get a touch up.  I think my artist went too fast or something.

I followed all his instructions but today the flaking phase started, and as expected some colored flakes came off on their own throughout the day.  but what they left is a very thin looking tat.  I shined my flashlight on it, and it appears that the ink is a bit spotty, like he didn't go deep enough.  I am going to wait a few weeks for it to heal but I think it's going to end up looking pretty crappy.  I'm more than pissed.  I am not getting another tat done at this place for sure.

And yes, I did research this phase of the healing but this simply looks as if over half the ink flaked off.

Just a note about skin and skin types. The physical make up of almost everyone's skin is different. There is some truth to the phrase about having thick skin  :D Not to mention that the different places you get tattoo'd will yield different results.

I have very thin skin compared to my ex. We got tattoo'd by the same artist on the same day (xmas present to each other). I had exactly what you describe happen to my right inner fore  arm. She had her outer bicep done and it looked absolutely perfect. So I did a little research and this is what I learned. I just had her touch it up and looks perfect  :tu:

It's quite possible that he didn't set the depth right on the needle, or just didn't colour it in enough - like you say, may have gone too fast - definitely needs a touch up if you're not happy though.

Make sure you do leave it at least 2-3 weeks before you go as your skin will be thin and damaged right now, so just needs time to heal a bit more. Also, build up of scar tissue on any tat can thin the colour a bit depending on your skin. Block black can be a little difficult to get right first time, but an experienced artist should have no probs.

Not to assume you didn't, but I always tell people to check out examples of a tattooists work on skin if possible. Drawings tell you nothing and pics of tatts can be misleading.

Edit: Mr wndstrck is also right :D

What really sucks is I got a new job and I am moving across the country again, in exactly two weeks.  I don't know if that will be enough time for it to heal so he can touch it up.

I know it is gonna need it, that's without question.  My brother has a ton of tats so I'm sure he knows someone I can go to once I get to my new place.

I am indeed not happy, but I think it's gonna end up fine.

This seemed like the appropriate thread, let me know if i should just start my own please, don't want to hijack!
I'm thinking of getting a tattoo, any idea where i should get it? I'm thinking inside of forearm, but I'm afraid that wouldn't be enough space, thoughts and help appreciated. I would get just the design, no background or words. Also, thoughts on if i should even get one considering I'm 17, and it may fade/change?

I see tattoo choice and placement to be a real personal thing. For me, it would be like asking someone what kind of haircut you should get?

I just wonder if you feel inside of forearm would be enough room for a design i perceived to be at last moderately intricate

Speaking from experience ask the tattoo artist. I had a nicely detailed lion head done on my outer fore arm and the artist told me it needed to be bigger or the detail would bleed together over time, boy he wasn't kidding. I am now the proud owner of a tattoo that no one has guessed correctly in at least ten years,

You think if i eliminate some detail and have it wrap like 120 degrees around my forearm it would work? I want it easily visible >:D

I am sure if you found the right artist they could work that drawing up to match the dimensions of your forearm without losing the overall feel, while keeping the intricate details to a minimum.

I'd have to agree with that.  As to tattoo roll call, I have four at the moment- a rune on my right arm, Rat and Pig from the comic Pearls Before Swine on my left arm, and a small lizard on my left leg.  That one is a bit of a memorial, a good friend of mine had the same tattoo.  He was killed on 9/11.

I think I will also have to go for a touch up. I have one small line that faded out pretty bad, but luckily only the one small spot.

Sorry to hear about yours, hopefully you can get something sorted out!

Going in for a touch up is pretty normal for tattoos, and in fact most artists (at least good ones) will suggest you do so especially for more intricate designs.  Heck most artists will suggest you come in for a touch up even if you're happy with the outcome.  It *should* be free.
