The painted ones Chako has are from this ebay seller: http://stores.ebay.com/texastoolcrafters

they also have a web site here: http://www.texastoolcrafters.com/

but they started doing this just a couple of months ago, so way after the Mini was disco'ed.

Great collection, pics and info there loki :salute:

This kind of info needs to be added to the Multitool Encyclopedia so people can find it easily in the future.

My Mini has date codes of 0395 and 0595, but does NOT have hard wire cutters. Is this common. From your post I believe it says the 1994-2000 have hard wire cutters. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this or if I have my facts wrong. Thanks.

Yes the early ones did not have them. One of mine does not have them.. I think they used the PST pliers of the time or something.
There are also some other differences on the pliers...
I think.

It is quite possible that the change to the new pliers (with wire cutter for hard wire) occurred later than in the PST. I have focused on a period of history zamny pliers to PST. MiniTool on my 1995 already with cutting pliers for hard wire.

Strange. My 1995 does not have the hard wire cutters. I guess its either before they changed it that year or the off chance it was sent in for warranty and came back with new handles.

It is possible that this is a return of the guarantee. I would like to know the date then start the installation of new pliers with wire cutter for hard wire ...

Hello Capt. & Loki,

I've two Mini Tools;

(A) Date stamped "0395" but no hard wire cutter. Text on handle is "LEATHERMAN® MINI TOOL", "US PAT 4744272", "PORTLAND OR"; &

(B) No date stamp with no hard wire cutter. same text on handle as (A).

Although stampings are the same, they have slightly different locations.

I think the Mini-Tool is still a great tool option for those wanting almost full size pliers in the most compact package with some basic other tools.

Here is the info you requested Loki.
Most likely a first production run Mini Tool.
No markings on either handles.
Pliers & blade marked Leatherman USA.
Knurled screws are thinner than average as found on many early PST's.

This is the same as the mini tool I have. Leatherman told me it was a first production run but I'm not sure.

I really think it is first production run Mini. It has thinner knurled screws and the way that screw is shaped that the pliers rest up against when folded just seems a little less refined than all of the other Mini Tools I have seen. Regardless, it's a keeper! :tu:

Thanks for posting that Nhoj! I probably should have mentioned that my Mini with no markings is the one on the left. I have seven other Minis and they all have the same screws as the Mini on the right in my picture. That is one reason that I tend to believe it is a first production run model. Does your Mini have the thinner knurled screw head as well?

I'm not sure about the thickness off the screw head. How do I know if it's thinner? Anyway here are some old pictures of it.

I just compared the screws side by side and was able to see the difference. Also, the thinner screw feels a little sharper around the edges.
