Swiss Bayonet M1918
on: September 09, 2012, 01:06:29 AM
When I have started to collect Swiss soldier knives, i was having a goal. To collect all the variations of them or at least most of them. And a few years later, i was able to succeed it, to some point. But then i realize that one thing was missing from my collection. And that was a Swiss Army Bayonet.
This was also issued to the Swiss soldiers, so it had to be in my collection. I started to gather as much information as I could, for the variations and the models that they existed and when i decided which model i want and i start to look for it. Finally after almost a year i was able to buy one in very good condition and in a fair price.

Here is a M1918 bayonet with the sheath and the leather frog. The Model 1918 has a double-edged blade and lacks a fuller.
The Swiss Model 1918 Bayonet is the original issue bayonet for Swiss Armed Forces that was included with each K11 or K31 rifle from 1933 until 1958.
This bayonet is in unissued condition and unserialized, and on the blade is stamped “ELSENER SCHWYZ VICTORIA”. The serial number was applied only when the bayonet was paired with a rifle.
This bayonet was made by Elsener between 1950–1955, after "Victoria" was added to the ricasso marking and before Elsener began producing the M1918/55 variant that combined the M1914 hilt with the M1918 blade.
It was in very good condition and i only made a few minor repairs to the sheath and to the leather frog.

Model 1918 SPECIFICATIONS:

Blade Length - 11.81" (300mm)
Handle Length - 5" (124mm)
Total Length - 17" (431m)
Muzzle Ring Diameter - 0.56" (14mm)
Issued with : Schmidt-Rubin Models 1911 Carbine, K31
Manufacturer: Elsener Schwyz (AKA Victorinox)

 That is beautiful!  I have a Model 1911 Schmidt-Rubin, the long rifle, not a carbine.  It is really neat, straight pulls are not exactly common at the ranges I go to.  The few that you do see tend to be Kar31's, so the full size rifle is a bit of an oddity.  I've been looking for a bayonet for it for quite some time, no luck yet.  :(  I do have a bayonet for the Stg57 rifle though, made by Wenger.

Maybe i can help you find the bayonet that you search.
If you want i can sent to you a pm with a link to a seller in ebay that sells

You also need the full sized version :) issued to the artillery for chopping wood etc

This one only fits the carbine .... although most have had the socket blocked as the geneva convention is not to keen on giant serrated bayonets :)

If I had one it would probably be the worst wood processing tool I own

.... still want one

Here's the only Swiss bayonet I own, a Pattern 1957 made by Wenger.  Vic Compact for scale....

Of course, it's for a later rifle than the other ones shown.  This site has some useful info on the different models of bayonets the Swiss used - http://www.swissrifles.com/bayonets/    The site itself is pretty neat.  Like I said, my Schmidt-Rubin is a shooter, such a unique and cool rifle. The bayonet I'd be looking for is the Model 1899.
