That's why you always get a good kayak with seperate holds and/or flotation bladders.  A good kayak has to be MAJORLY damaged before it'll sink.  For example, my big fiberglass boat is divided into four sections- the bow hold, the cockpit, day hatch and stern hold.  Each section is separated by a watertight bulkhead which means if one leaks the others keep you afloat.  I've been swamped before when not wearing a skirt and the cockpit filled almost completely and I was still afloat, although I was sitting a lot lower in the water!

As I sit on my Crapper Throne in the Reading Room and explode on the Commode, thinking, how my flush beat John’s and Jerry’s pair? Jack’s had to run for the Water Closet yet ended up tripping on a Can bowing and hitting his Head on the Porcelain God! 🚽

That's usually what I do, but sometimes nice smooth lakes are connected by very rough canals, which is what happened here.

I think that whole run was around 15 miles and this part was maybe a couple of hundred feet.  It was of course the most exciting couple of hundred feet though!

When there's a branch across the river there's not a lot of choice!  :D
