Bladeplay Swisstool?!

For the first time really disappointed in Victorinox Recieved a NIB Swisstool and I'm rather shocked. Except the PE blade, all tools have vertical play, too much of it.
My Spirit still locks up solid on all tools, after years EDC.
WTSmurf is going on here?
I can't imagine nobody else has noticed this problem with the Swisstool?
I must have missed some talk?

I only have experience with the Spirit (3 of them) and they don't have any vertical play on any tool. All of them have a bit of horizontal play, especially on the longer outside edge tools.
Hasn't affected function, though.
If the trees blew down the wind and no one was around, would the alphabet song really go backwards?

My Swisstool had wild amounts of play straight from the box, up-down as well as side-to-side. The up-down play is so bad the lock lever moves. The side-to-side play is sufficient to make the unextended tools click against the handles when using any of the perpendicular tools, like the pry bar or file.
I wonder if it's just the new production ones, without the stamping on the plier head and with no red silkscreening on the handle? I have to say, I was not as impressed with the fit of the tool as I had hoped, given the reputation.

How does Victorinox handle a warranty issue? Do they typically repair or exchange? And, is blade play covered under warranty? I'd hate to send something back just to hear that it's within spec.
When I first got the Swisstool back in August, I wondered if perhaps I'd gotten a counterfeit, considering how sub-par the fit seemed compared to the experiences described around here; the differences in markings compared to virtually every other example I've come across really made me think I had a knock-off. Now that I've heard of a few more examples with the same markings (and from the same production run, I assume) with the same issues, I'm wondering if this is what can be expected?
This is the first Victorinox I've gotten with these sort of quality issues. My Spirit, Champion+, Farmer and OHT all seem tighter and more... well, Swiss, for lack of a better term.
Especially
that Farmer.

Sending them an email (or even better, talking with them on the phone), before sending in the tool, could save you the hassle if blade play is considered within spec... which of course is not.

This "problem" has been mentioned here before:
see topic

I own 4 Spirits and none of them have any kind of bladeplay, I own one Swisstool (2008 model, so one with the Vic logo on the plierhead) and it does have a bit of play on some of the tools, especially on the file, saw, and small screwdriver, but nothing so bad that you notice it while using these tools.
The blade on the other hand has no play at all. And none of the tools have side to side play.

Every swisstool I have ever seen has had bladeplay.
I really wish Victorinox would change the locks on the swisstool like the ones on the spirit so they woudnt have anymore bladeplay, but I was told it would cost them to much.

Well I'll be darned mine does have a tiny bit too. I never noticed before. Not enough to bother me or effect use, maybe 1-2 mm at the blade tip. Side to side movement would bother me though but a little play that way im ok with. I honestly never would have noticed if I didnt try to play with the tool.

Mine is much worse Syph. Only the main blade is solid, All the rest terrible. Some even side to side play, and this is new stock out of the box. Doesn't give me a lot of confidence. I bought the Swisstool at a local webshop. They take it back no questions asked. I had high hopes, but back to the proven Spirit for me.

I wish Dave was still around; he's the only one I know with enough energy to discuss why one faulty specimen should never be enough to waver one's confidence.

One faulty specimen? Not what I learned from reading more on the matter.
We see over the years a decrease in quality, along the whole product range.

Mine isn't as tight as my Spirits, but certainly nothing to cause concern or affect the use of the tool. I'd still rather have the Swisstool over the majority of it's competitors

Ok, let me explain then. Of the thousands of SwissTools sold and/or issued, we have seen very few reports for q.c. issues. Moreover, there have only be a handful of reports for broken tools (pliers or other implements). Granted, our view of the multitool world is biased as not everyone put their mt stories on the web, or are members of our (really tiny, compared to the user base) community. The same holds for Leatherman or SOG tools with broken plier heads (due to casting issues), PS4 or other squirts with broken backsprings, etc. What counts for me is that (a) the tools are (most of the times) of exceptional quality and of high utility value, and (b) when q.c. fails, the respective companies are swift in standing behind their products.
That said, the Swiss are "notorious" for having different notions and targets as far as "solid lock-up" and "tacticool" etc. are concerned. When dissected, both STs and Spirits use a sort of compression lock for all implements; since the lockbar presses against the backspring and handles, for that lock to fail it would take a great deal of force. Vertical play may develop if the backsprings become softer with time (or if there was some heat treatment issue in the first place), but that does not signify a lock failure. Ditto for the 111mm linerlocks, where play is always there and considered a part of the lock-up a la Swiss. Things are much grimmer if the little spring pushing the lockbar in its locked position goes bad, but that should be covered under warranty. Side-to-side play is an indication of pins going bad and should be covered under warranty as well.
In brief, the Swiss have a more utilitarian notion of what "lock-up" means, tending more towards "will not close on my fingers" than "will not budge when locked". Compared to a Spydie or Benchmade folder, they may seem sloppy or not "solid", but the point is that that was never part of the tool's specs.

I agree with Nikos opinion.
Until a year ago i had worked for official dealer of Victorinox in Greece and i haven't seen any of that problems in all of the product range of SwissTools.
But even if the last run have q.c. issues, i am absolute sure that Victorinox will stand behind their products with respect for the customer.
In my case they have done it twice, with some SAK's that were over 40 years old.
And i haven't paid anything, even for the shipping.
Now for the SwissTools, we had sent them some in very bad condition from the user.
They repaired them and they only charged a few euros just for the shipping!

Your missing the point Nikos. We are talking here about the last run, without the logo on the head, that shows faults. If you see it you would understand my issues with it. Bottom line it's my money and I don't want to send a brand new product in for repairs that I just got. Thanks everybody for your opinion. A refund is sorted.
