Swiss Army Knife Art
on: September 26, 2012, 10:33:32 AM
I keep a 10554 posts "Astronomical Art" thread in our Amateur Astronomy site http://www.astrovox.gr/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12092&start=0, so I thought, I could start a Swiss Army Knife Art thread here. You might post anything SAK related that has something to do with Fine and Liberal Arts, painting, photography, sculpture, literature and poetry, drama and cinema, consumer artifacts, advertising etc.
Let me start!  :climber:

Victorinox Anniversary Spartans for the Lion Monument in Lucerne.

The Lion Monument in Lucerne is a giant dying lion carved out of a wall of sandstone rock above a pond at the east end of the medieval town. It was designed as a memorial for the mercenary soldiers from central Switzerland who lost their lives while serving the French king Louis XVI during the French Revolution.
When the revolutionary masses attacked the royal Tuileries castle in Paris on August 10, 1792  and on 2nd and 3rd of September 1792 the Swiss mercenary troops tried to defend the royal family and make sure the royals could escape. The Lion Monument was inaugurated on August 10, 1821.The latin inscription HELVETIORUM FIDEI AC VIRTUTI means "To the loyalty and bravery of the Swiss".
Mark Twain called this sculpture “the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world.”

Elsener's first factory was an old mill on the Tobelbach stream in Ibach; his store was in the family home.  Both are shown, below the Mythen mountains whcih still loom over the modern factory in "Swiss Knife Valley", Schwyz, in this drawing by Michael Young, author of The Swiss Army Knife Owner's Manual.  More quaint than beautiful, but SAK art.  Young says the two horses symbolize Victorinox (the older and more conservative) and Wenger (the younger and more playful) Swiss knife companies.  Sure.

I don't have any art per se but was wondering, isn't the whole reason we are here is because that the SAK is a piece of art as is?

That's a SAC or an ornament? The blades are made of what? Crystal or something?

Try harde folks, there's tons of stuff over there. SAK has a high iconic status, it's not just a multitool of EDC, it is a multitool for abstract and cognitive functions as well.
