My username was the first one I created in 1998 to use on mIRC, I wanted to be able to chat with some friends living abroad.

Then it became my first e-mail address that I lost because I didn't use it at all. I guess it was only normal that I chose this username to use on MT.O.

For the record, firiki is a variety of small apples I really like.

Bah, no harm done, Emmanuel  I realised my username might be difficult to pronounce in English after I had chosen it (fee-REE-khee). Besides, there is this hidden pun in there, if pronounced quickly it does indeed sound like "friki" (φρίκη) which means horror in Greeκ and "freaky" in English

Eventually all the cool names were taken and people started to use conjunctions of their real names, then eventually everyone just started using their real names because it was easier to find each other on Facebook, Twitter and other social media outlets.

I was lucky to have (slow) internet access since the late 90's, in IRC chatrooms a nic was a given.

Without internet forums my 2 main hobbies would've remained closed books, and through the years I twice received gifts that, converted to my currency, were pretty substantial.....too the point of almost making me uncomfortable, but very thankful.
My suspicious side always wondered how many times the kindness of strangers got abused.
