Heres a couple of new ones from me . No where near as nice as some of the shots you guys have posted . But I thought these where a bit interesting

First one is a set of buried steps in the sand

(Image removed from quote.)

And this one is a World War 11 Aircraft control tower about 5 mile inland from me

(Image removed from quote.)

Dunc

Very nice pictures Dunc. That control tower played a major role in the Battle of Britain.

The Germans were very afraid of the Spitfires.

RAF's planes were outnumbered but never outgunned and outmanuevered. They were always there to meet the German bombers over the English Channel before they reached the British shore.

I love to study WWII. It's amazing how many close calls the allies had. There were several times where, had a couple of different decisions made, we would have lost the war.

At the risk of thread drifting....It would have never reached the American mainland but consider how things may have been different had Hitler invested more time, money and energy into developing the Atomic bomb. That, plus assume we get pushed back into the ocean on D-Day and there's a good chance the US might have had to agree to peace. Both of those things could have happened, especially the D-Day landings.

It still is imposible to defeat a great nation with vast territory and unlimited resources. Hitler was losing steam already on D-day

Assuming that Hitler won the race in developing the A-bomb, he has no delivery system to reach any target across the Atlantic Ocean.

This is MTO.org, we don't need no moderators!

I find it perversley interesting to see some of the concepts the Nazis had for long range delivery of bombs. I recall seeing concept designs for a large multi-jet engine bomber meant to attack New York but as far as I remember they never had any impressive bomber designs. Their mainstay; the He 111 was a joke compared to the B-17, B-24 and Lancaster Bombers of the Allies.

I always liked the Lancaster, it's ugly in that special British way.

And don't even get me started on the Hawker Typhoon. I spent entire days dreaming of soaring over the German countryside in one of those when I was a kid.

Yeah, the “Lankie” was a great bomber of the RAF Bomber Command. It helped a lot in the devastation of Hitler’s Germany. The most memorable bomber of WW II is a Boeng B29 Superfortress piloted by Col. Paul Tibbets. What this particular plane did during WWII is part of history.

The B-29 is the first bomber with pressurized cabin.

Hawker Typhoon and Spitfire are the most popular RAF fighters. Great planes during WW II.

Col. Tibbets and the Enola Gay during WWII

The Enola Gay now.

No doubt I will now be stoned to death by my fellow brits, but I actually prefere the P51D, if my life depended on any aircraft during WW2, I'm pretty sure that one would keep me alive the longest :), allthough a DeHavilland Mosquito would run it a close second, in the survivability stakes :)

Don't get me wrong, I love the Spit and I don't think there has ever been a prettier aircraft, and certainly up to mid 43, it was the best fighter in the world, and through it's successive marks it stayed a deadly warplane, but I feel the P51D lifted the mantle of most deadly :)

Yeah, the Mustang (P51D) is indeed deadly and it ranks high in maneuverability.

You should be safe micky d. The P 51 was a great plane. But what made it great was when they equipped it with the British Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. Before that is was only a good plane. The Merline changed all that.
