Your very first knife!
on: October 21, 2012, 12:15:18 PM
Do you still have the very first knife you owned? Post your pics and stories here!

This is my first knife.
Its a Mora scouts knife and my father and I bougth it on a trip to Sweden when I was 5 years old. It was a great day! I had a lot of adventures with that knife! (And cut myself many times :D)

As you can see it is not in a very good shape and it is very dull. I thought about cleaning it up and resharpen it, but desided not to. (I might just use it as an exsample of what a knife will look like if you dont take proper care of it)
A few months after my son was born I discovered that Mora still makes this knife, so I instantly bought one for him. Im worried that when he is old enough to get his first knife they won't be around anymore. :(

That's a lovely first knife - why not sharpen it and pass it on to your son instead of the new one?

Those Mora's beg to be used.

I thought about that.  I want him to have his own first knife. If I give him mine, it will always be part mine. I dont want him to be afraid of losing or breaking my first knife, and therefore not use it as much as he should.

My first knife was a Victorinox Camper, and I still have it.  Despite being 30+ years old it's still very useable.  The blade is ground a bit and the scales are scratched up but it's still good to go.

That's a good point. He'll be pleased to have a knife just like his dad's! I remember my daughter's smile when I gave her a Vic Camper and an old sheath knife  for her birthday - She really looks after them well and has been practicing sharpening them and using correct techniques to stay safe.

My first knife was a Vic Champ (I think!) but it's sadly long gone now.

My first knife was one of my Grandfather's after he died. That knife is long since lost, My next knife I still have. That was a gift from a friend and still gets carried. It's been in my pocket all weekend as it happens  :) It's a Sheffield made carbon steel lambsfoot blade, heavy patina but still going strong after more than 20 years

my first sharp knife that I remember was a Sheffield made knife with a spear point, something like this:

Sadly that knife was lost a long time ago, but never forgotten.

My first knife was a US made Schrade Barlow, sadly long gone.  :(  I have a soft spot for the Barlow pattern because of it.

My first knife was this Vic Pioneer I bought it with some birthday $ as a kid & is approaching 30 years old. I broke the blade tip at some stage, I reshaped it a few years ago. Her it is with another Pioneer  :D
