Folks on the East Coast of the U.S., be safe.

Looks like it's going to hook West into the VA, PA, NY area Tuesday/Wednesday. I know weather forecasts aren't exactly a perfect science, so just keep eyes open.

Just like last August with Irene, tons of fun I'm sure.  >:(  Today at work we got a delivery that included six generators.  By the time I left all six were gone..... We're ready here, I've got six days of nonperishable food, water, a camp stove with two spare cylinders, radio, and all the flashlights have fresh batteries.  Stay safe, everyone!

I'm on top of a mountain...no worries about flooding, but have seven blocks of ice in freezer in garage, two full propane tanks for grill with side burner, more flashlights and batteries than I know what to do with, and a portable dvd player with car charger...a full laptop battery will charge my android a bunch of times, so I'm set.

Watching it. I've got plans for next weekend that don't involve cleaning up.  :-\

They're predicting the eye further East now.  Still in predicted 58+mph winds, but better than taking it full force.  Hope it continues to move East though... ::)

When last storm hit we were in Connecticut, knocked our power out for over a week, and phone and communication for a few days more, now were 700 miles west, so I dont think its going to be an problem for us, but I hope you guys are well stocked and all set! Back to the eye passing 10-12 miles NE of us.  We're now in the area at risk for hurricane force winds.  Whee.

We're under a state of emergency as of 11am today.  In the center of town, stores are renting trucks and moving their merchandise out.  Last year during Irene, Denville got over 3 feet of water along Main St.  :ahhh  Better safe than sorry..... The lakes and reservoirs around here have been lowered in advance unlike last year.  At home we'll be fine from flooding, we're over 300 feet above the river and canal.  :tu:  If I see the water starting to get that high, time to build an ark........

While prediction models of weather events are still sketchy, it still amazes me that we can watch time lapse images of a hurricane moving around the globe.

Sounds like you Easter Coast folks are aware and preparing. That makes me happy. Here's hoping nothing comes of this.

So the plots I'm seeing put landfall anywhere from south Jersey to Rhode Island, then taking a left. Might get half an inch of rain over a couple of days, I'm more worried about wind.

Need to do a FOD walk around the building, top off the gas tank, and drain and wash my jerry can of water- it still has the same water from Irene. Once that is filled, the only real out of the ordinary action will be to do laundry tomorrow- I usually go to the laundrymat on Monday or Thursday.

Yep.  The newest model (as of about 5 minutes ago) has moved the eye much farther north and east.  We are now out of the hurricane force wind cone.  Rainfall in the 6-8 inch range over 5 days, so that's not so bad either. Looks like Monday night will be the problem.

Hang in there everyone.  I hope this works out to be as much worthless hoopla as most of these storms end up being.  Even so, there's no harm in being prepared.

Only two cases?  Preparing for a best-case scenario, huh?  :P  NYC has suspended all of its transit operations, last train out of the city is at 7pm.  All Atlantic City Casinos are to be evacuated starting at 4pm today.  :o  We're just enjoying some time here with hot water and lights, who knows what tomorrow's going to bring......

Oh yeah I hear ya on that.  Be safe!  I have a lot of family in Sayville, on the South Shore.  They're hunkering down, but ready to move in a moments notice.  Here in NJ, all the trains and buses are now shut down starting at 2am tomorrow, and I'm off from work until at least Wednesday.

The winds are supposed to be pretty managable by the time it hits lake ontario in my part of the province later this week, but I wont be suprised if the power goes out at some point.

It seems like any storm that happens, I lose power.  Maybe I'll finally have a reason to fire up the generator I picked up 3 yrs ago an never used yet.  My workshop/garage likes to flood and the sump has been running alot with all the rain.  If I lost power all together it wouldn't be pretty, which is what first prompted me to get the genny.  Good luck all.

That sounds like:
"The book says the effective fragmentation radius is of this is 30 feet."
"We're 35 feet away."
"See, totally safe."

:)

And Syph, have you tested the genny?

So right now, they are predicting 50-60 mph gusts, with the possibility of 80mph for where I am. I drive an Escape- lighter than it should be for a center of gravity that high. Hang on everyone- we're going for a ride!

Well there's also some Scotch if this drags on longer :)

Just got back from picking up my wife at a job in Brooklyn, NYC is a ghost town, pretty freaky but very easy driving.
