Yup, keep safe guys.

We are getting some wind and rain from the edge of it, and its supposed to stay with us for a few days but I'm not imagining it will be all that serious.

The good news is that the ocean needs to raise by about 100 feet before it gets to where I live so fortunately we have no flooding concerns!

Wind has picked up a fair but, but the rain is still fairly light.  South Jersey is getting hammered though.  If nelly1974 or Big-Target see this, hope you guys are OK down there!  :salute:

Still raining but the winds are back down to a normal rainstorm level.  Sounds like those on the North and Northeast side of the storm took the brunt of it. :(

The pictures are always dramatic- boring stories don't sell newspapers!  I remember that when Hurricane Juan blew through here the overall damage was pretty minimal but the news showed the six buildings or so that were damaged- over and over and from different angles so it looked like the city had been flattened.

That's not to say Sandy isn't bad, but take the news images with a grain of salt!

They say 13 people died, so it must have been prety bad. The Nuclear Power plant red alert is also pointed out a lot. Memories of Fukushima are still prety fresh.

I'm just glad that you guys get to prepare in advance!

Not to belittle the impact of this storm, but where I live, the fact it's nearly impossible to accurately predict an earthquake is something you just have to learn to live with.  Back in 1989, the Loma Prieta quake we had here in the SF Bay Area did as much damage in the 15 sec. it lasted as hurricane Andrew did in the entire 48 hours it took to move across Florida and the south.  (And 15 sec. is very short for a 7+ magnitude quake; we got off easy!)

Anyway, glad to hear you guys are holding up well... I have relatives and friends out that way, and I've heard that so far things have been okay for them, relatively speaking of course.  Still, stay safe!

Where I live on the upper west side there doesn't seem to be that much damage, just a lot of debris on the street. The worst that happened was I lost cable internet connectivity for a few hours this morning ::) Tonight I'll head out to the park with my dog and expect to see a lot of trees down, the wind was pretty serious last night.
