Skeletool
on: March 07, 2008, 02:15:00 AM
I have told you guys that I bought two Skeletools. One is for me and the other I am raffled off at work. I charged three bucks a ticket and picked the name out of a hat. The officer that won was so HAPPY! I ended up getting sixty bucks which is the cost of the tool! So it was a win win situation. I like it but its not me. I like a heavy duty MT with a lot of functions and this is clearly not that! I think it is a quality tool but just too minimal for me. I bought it because I had to have it and now it is going in with the rest of my MTs!

Did you set up the raffle with the intent of making a profit, breaking even, or donating the proceeds to a charity. *confused*

Hmm, can a tool designed to be ultra-simplistic and minimal be too minimal, or does that simply mean that LM has got a winner on their hands? In either case, I still want one!!

Since there is this thread about the skeletool, I gotta say something.

I've had my skeletool for a day... a day and the pocket clip just came off by itself! I know its removeable, but it shouldn't be falling off by itself!

The screw for the pocket clip on my Skeletool was loose also. I could turn it with my fingers.

I think they missed the Loctite on the pocket clips.  Mine was a little loose when new as well.

I guess mine came from a later run when they had a routine going as my pocket clip seems pretty solid so far.

The pocket clip on mine is very sturdy as well. The winner loves his! BTW, I didn't intend to make money just a fun thing to do!

Fingertight pocket clip screw on mine also. I grabbed a T8 torx wrench and snugged it down.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

My CX finally came yesterday and I am so excited. My first impressions were largely positive. It's small, light and the blade is shaving sharp. The curved shaped of the tool also make it one of the most comfortable multitools I have used when using the pliers. My biggest problem is the difficulty in unlocking the bits. It might just be mine, but it takes a great deal of force to push down on the locking latch to switch bits. Also I agree with the others who say that you should get a bit kit with this tool if you want to get the most out of it. All in all the I'm really happy with it, hopefully it will go the distance as I start to put it to work.

Wow, that'll make you the first one here with the CX.

Post some pictures. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see them

Yes. Though I must advise that the skeletool be used for shaving only in emergency conditions (i.e. beard caught in the door of a car sinking into a lake).

I got a skeletool yesterday, I think I really like it! putting it through it's paces, but so far so good.

I got a couple of gerber I.U. a short while ago and they came with some simple nylon cases/pouches.
the skeletool fits real nice in them;

My pocket clip came loose last night, almost to the point where I lost the clip.  I hadn't noticed any play in it, then when looking at it last night, the clip was loose enough that it almost fell off.  Fortunately, I had it hanging by the carabiner at the time.  I snugged it down by hand and will tighten it properly when I get off my lazy arse and find my Torx screwdriver.

The good news is that the clip screw doesn't seem to be significant to keeping the tool together- meaning that the pliers can be used without fear of falling apart if the clip and screw are lost.

What I am wondering is has anyone considered carrying the Skeletool sans clip?

I usually hang it by the carabiner, but I have used the clip a few times too.  I'm not certain I'd want to be without it, but it might be nice to try and see if it makes that much of a difference.

I've never been much a a clip guy, though some are nice and well designed. I've just lost so many
other things using a clip (during rougher use/movement), I'm worried the same thing will happen with a MT or knife.
I like sheath/case on a belt and deep in a secure pocket carry. I probably will take the Skeletool
clip off. I'll use the carabiner for other things but I do like it.

It's nice to know that Leatherman thought ahead and considered this a possibility and made sure to address it.

I removed mine (clip) tonight and it seems I may need a washer.
it's pretty lose without one, it would have been nice if they had
added one.

Really?  Mine is so darned tight that I can't remove the plier pin without significant effort.

I've carried mine with a magnetic lanyard & no clip.  I've also carried with the carabiner clipped on my jeans with no clip.  I put Loctite on my screw to keep it from rotating freely.  Removing the screw should not affect the pivot at all unless the pivot screw turns along with the clip screw.  Mine doesn't do that.
