Top 5 tools?
on: November 29, 2006, 11:56:25 PM
In another thread I mentioned that the Spirit probably ranked well within the top 5 tools for most folks, but it got me to thinking whether it really is there or not?  Sure it's one of the top 5 tools folks talk about here, but is it in the top 5 for you?  It could be pretty neat to see what everyong thinks is the top 5 tools now, then do this again in a year or so and see what's withstood the test of time, what's been eclipsed and so on.

My top 5 tools are:

SwissTool Spirit
Leatherman Juice XE6
Leatherman Juice Kf4
SwissTool X
Wenger SwissGrip

There's no criteria to choose from- not heavy duty tools, not woods tools, nothing.  Just what 5 tools are your favorites?

My top 5 tools:

Leatherman Charge Ti
SwissTool Spirit
Leatherman Core
SwissTool
Leatherman Juice Xe6

If you count SAKs as multitools I would replace the Juice Xe6 with the SwissChamp

Funny. I had the LM Charge tool and didn't like it at all becauae of the fat Ti Handles that are screwed on and the bit changer. I Sold it. Don't carer for the new Wave because of the same tools. The only thing nice about the Charge is the blade. *hint hint* to other manufacturers. This is a simple upgrade and will really help marketing.

Vic Spirit
SOG powertool
Swisstool
Old LM wave
LM Juice KF4
Core

Okay so it was six. I really like the Core just did not no how to rate it. Its larger tools make it an interesting multi because of its size. Don't care for the Surge because its to fat and does not feel as good as the Core.

I like the Charge Ti handles. I have the old Wave and the New Wave and the Charge handles are more comfortable when using the outside tools. I feel that I can get a better grip on them as well. Plus they look cool :D  Different tools for Different folks I guess.

Well for me the top two rank simply because of the pocket clip, I work in the retail business and having a tool on your side clashes with your wardrobe (dress shirt, tie, slacks). So mine are:

Charge Xti (I like it cause it has better steel than the wave, two drivers and the Ti gives me a better grip on the handles)
Wave (Always my favortie, like the Ti but for my dirtier jobs around the house)
Spirit (Love the small stature of the spirit in comparison to the Swisstool, Vic definaly put ergomics into this one)
Powerlock (Compound leverage, what more can I say)
Swisstool CS PLus (My complete fix it all package, I can fix just about anything with this package on my hip, but it weight a ton.)

I do count SAKs as multitools (to me a multitool is any tool that has multiple tools, regardless if it has pliers or not), so my current "fav 5" in no particular order is:

-SwissTool
-SwissTool Spirit
-Juice S2
-SAK SwissChamp
-SAK Explorer Plus

Still looks like I was right in suggesting that for most people, the Spirit is in the top 5 tools.

"Victorinox Cadet ( alox)- in my wallet". Hey that a pretty good idea. I have one and am going to try it in my Victorinox wallet. Thanks for sharing.
