Roughing up the handle?
on: November 17, 2012, 07:46:34 PM
Have any of you taken steps to rough up the smooth cellidor scales onthe SAK's?

I love SAK's, but one glaring fault is the too smooth handles. With wet or cold hands, they sometimes have less than good grip. I've used both 200 grit sandpaper to rough up the surface, as well a a very sharp pointed scribe to stipple the surface of the plastic. It works out good for wet/cold hands.

Of course with alox it isn't needed, nor on the echo nylon scales.
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

Actually, I often have very dry skin on my hands, so often I get a better grip on cellidor than alox. It's something about the alox which makes dry skin just slide along, while the slick cellidor takes hold. Don't ask me how it works.

Mine is automatically roughened by keys and other stuff in the same pocket.  :P Never had a problem with slippery scales, but if it's cold/wet I tend to grab something else than SAK.

I would like to see how they look.

Celledor, no. Nylon, every single one I own. Give me a few minutes with nylon scales and steel wool, and I'll give you a SAK that feels almost sueded and won't want to slip, even with greasy hands.
