Argh... I told myself Id never buy limited edition ones, but that orange looks nice!
just wondering why they have a saw on a sailor knife, I like to sail but haven't really thought wow i need to saw something while sailing....even on my homemade canoe sail rig.
They are beautifull...(Image removed from quote.)
Well, the majority of the Marlin spike SAK models have the saw:SailorMidshipmanFirst MateNo saw: SeamanPioneer 2223 (Sea Pioneer)So a 3 to 1 score overall for saw versus no saw...

The Sailor family
Would be interesting to know exactly how "US NAVY" ended up on the black one. There is a bit of mistery there. Maybe some were given as gifts to personal friends in the US Navy (wild guess here) and what remains from that 50 pieces run is sold to the collectors community?
They have no connection with the us navy
The saw & marlinspike was not only for sailors. An early Elsener catalogue from 1903 shows pics of his knives w/saws and sacking sewing needles (marlinspikes) for (farm) workers. See last page of his catalog.
My thoughts exactly, now if they put a fish scaler with it,it would of made more sense, and would definitely be a more useful tool.

This thread just gave me an idea of how to use up the pile of new fish scalers I have, and satisfy my want of a marlinspike. Grind off the lower prong, and add a hole near the end... modded thin sacking needle! With built in ruler! I'd probably have to make the other prong longer and pointier, but it would work.

I also thought it was a good idea to find some use for scaler and it can share the same layer as the saw....being flat it wouldn't have the same stress resistance as the actual marlin spike but how many people are actually untying big knots with them anyways right?
