People have already said everything I have to say, but I couldn't help writing, too as I've started collecting (only now did I realize it) single AAA lights..

I didn't use to have any lights exactly about a year ago. My first light I bought last December was a Feix E01. If you worry about bulk, that's what you should buy. When it arrived, I thought they'd send me an empty package, that's how tiny it is.

I use it mainly at night for immediate lighting up the room instead of walking a few metres in the dark before I reach the light switch. Otherwise I'd have tripped up in cables or stepped on my dog maaaany times, lol.

Now I'm thinking... will you be able to repair your car at the light of a phone? I must admit I've never had a phonewith a flashlight, though.

A small flashlight gives you the advantage of being able to hold it in your mouth when you need both of your hands free, someone said it already.

I personally also use my flashlights for reading. My room doesn't get lit up enough by the sun in the winter afternoons, but turning on the big lamp on the ceiling at midday doesn't properly solve the problem either. I've found 20 lumens (of my Olight i3) to "mix" well with daylight and make the perfect condition for reading.

And yes, people have already enumerated all other usages I've been through and even more :D

^ lovely shot there :)

So are you sold yet?!

I'd say the easiest factors to break it down in to are your budget, your needs and the size/weight you are prepared to carry.

I have tried almost every Fauxton on the market & they are not so good IMO. Get a real gold plated contact Photon Freedom & don't look back. You won't even know its on your keys until you need it.

This is karma somehow...

I turned the lights on in my room and the bulb immediately went out. I tripped trying to blindly navigate to the desk lamp.

Later on that night, on my way home from the midnight screening of "the hobbit", I step out of the car and my phone falls from my lap where I've forgotten it, somehow ending up underneath my car. Needing a light,  I instinctively reach into my pocket for my phone - the one that just fell under the car.

The universe is trying to tell me something.

 I'm glad you're okay :D What the universe is trying to tell you is: Not only do you need  flashlight, but you also need a BACK-UP flashlight in case your primary one falls and gets lost in the dark :D

If I told you there was a 50% chance of rain tonight you would carry an umbrella yes?

I can confirm 100% it will be dark tonight, so carry a torch/flashlight :)

That'll do it!

I have a few round the house in strategic positions, including the old 4D Maglite with an upgraded LED - that's for :twak:

I was doing a job in an old lath and plaster house , the hollow spaces held all kinds of secrets ( electrical , vent , copper and aqua pex ) . My penlight and dental mirror got quite a work out , I'm a firm believer in look before you cut !

I feel a need to clarify something. Several folks have mentioned ' fauxton' without explanation. It is a play on words, a joke on the brand- name ' photon', which is a little watch battery size keychain light. All of the generic knock- offs of it are generally called ' fauxtons' by us, not by manufacturers. Use search terms like ' micro keychain LED flashlight' with searches to find examples. I got a pack of 10 for $5 from Amazon, which have been great. It seems like their battery should give them a 10 hour run time.

I uploaded a flashlight app for my iPhone 3GS, the kind that lights the screen, and it's not half as bright as a fauxton even at highest brightness.

Great thinking, Lynn! :tu: We often forget not everybody is familiar with these terms we through around on a regular basis. Good clarification there. :salute:

I'm also a fan of the "fauxton". I give them out like candy. :D I'm down to 5 from the last batch of 20. Time for another order I think. ;)

They can also help to make cool photos.
