Anybody still looking at this thread?  I love it!  Would like to ask about the FLUSH RIVETS (like, not peened) being used.   What's holding the scales on in a case like that?  Glue?  I am working with horn and doing peened brass rivets which are trixy.  If possible I'd like to just sand 'em flush.  Anybody doing this?   Cheers,  Yager.

Thank you Vicman!
I was happy to find out that it had the high gloss finish.  The auction photo didn't look like it had any sheen to it and I'm not sure I captured it all that well either.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

Hi all, I’m a bit new to this and have inherited a sak. I am fascinated with them after reading so much about them. What do you think?

It depends on things like the tang stamps. Some of the members here are very good at dating SAKs (and I don't mean taking them out for dinner, that's an old joke :) ).
You may want to start a new thread if you want more people to notice :tu:

Quick estimation I think would be between 1970 and1975.
5 loop corkscrew is before 1983
Eyeless awl is from 1961 to 1985
The Saw looks like from 1970
Single spring scissors is pre 1975
So my guess is 1970 -1975.
A new thread might call more attention and real expert answer.
Good Luck,
Shalom

Excellent. I couldn't read the tang stamp on my phone (no, my phone does not have any tang stamps....oh never mind).

Early 1970s sounds about right :tu:

Many thanks for the help dating the knife, is it a common knife or rare? What would the value be? I’m not going to sell it as I inherited it, I’m just interested to know

Hard to say. There is another thread on that topic. It really depends on many variables. You should check eBay (sold items) to get a rough estimate.
I have a few 91mm SAKs with horn scales in varying conditions and of different vintages, I probably paid between €25 and €150 for each of them.

Can you post a picture of the front scale?

My the only SAK with horn scales – Victorinox Champion C (from 1984…1985, I suppose).
As the seller told, the scales was made of South African kudu antelope horn (but I am not sure if it’s true).

Hey guys.
It's been a while since I read this forum.  I just made a little video about using  Ox Horn for knife scales. This will be a multi part series and I'd love to get some feedback before continuing on.
