Military belts,,
on: December 13, 2012, 03:09:18 AM
Ok, of course one of the most important things I think is your belt! Don't get me wrong a nice leather dress belt is nice but I think a canvas military belt would be better? I have two rigger jump belts, the big rig and a smaller one, I also have a couple other ones made by bison designs, the one real reason I like them is after you have a nice meal, and you just have to let it out a little, you don't have to undo a whole belt hole! Another big reason I like I them is if you have to use it for medical tie, everyone's arms and legs are diff sizes yet you can choke the belt to any size..
I used to have one of the old school military belts, one with the little slide bars, where the harder you pulled the tighter it got, and I liked them, I also had one of one of the hing lock ones, but over time the teeth got bent and didn't lock right. But I've been looking at another military belt and I'm kinda curious as to if anyone's have or had one, the open face ones? It's like the one that I've never had and For some reason I can't work it in my head as to how good the locking mechanism works? Is it better then the slide bar? I like my belts but sometimes they don't hold as good and I have to re tighten it, so I was thinking of getting one of the military ones, but since it has a big  buckle face if I was to lean over the fender to look at the motor, it could easily scratch, and was thinking of the open face one doesn't have so much metal to scratch, but are they good? Does anyone have any info? Ty,  JR

I currently use the Spec Ops Rigger's Belt and I have for 8 years or so. I have a black one and a tan one. Probably the best belt that I've ever used.

Yes the instructors riggers belt I like but, it's to freaking thick, some of my pants won't even let it threw the loops, and is too stiff, on the other hand, the smaller riggers works out pretty good, not to thick, not over kill, doesn't have the Velcro on the sides, yet can still be a little over kill for some people.. They also make another military belt that is in similar design as one of the belts on the right in the pic that I posted, yet I think there plastic.. But the one that I have no clue on is this one? Yeah, that is a problem I have with some of my pants and shorts. I have an issued belt that I sometimes use similar to the belts in your OP.

I tend to stick with good quality leather too - feels and smells good and haven't had one fall apart on me.

I've been using Canadian Military or similar belts to this for about as long as I can remember:

http://williamscully.ca/gallery2/v/Products/military_belt_buckles/web_belts.jpg.html

I have a few generic buckles, and a few years ago retired my Canadian Air Force buckle I had been using in favour of a Dickies branded one... I have a generic one I use for my off to work clothes, and another I use exclusively with my work clothes (don't want any chemical crap on my good clothes!)

Will have to dig out the old buckle for a photo...

I have a leather belt I wear with jeans on occasion that has leather barbed wire in it. OK, I know, but I live in Texas where that is a look that won't go away. I also have a leather barbed wire hat band for my stetson to match the belt too.

I know this is a little out of date, but hey it fits the topic.. Anyway I was on the lookout for a new belt but then gave up, a few months ago I started looking around again and something Cought my eye, these tactical riggers seem to be a big hit, especially the ones with the large buckle, the ones with the buttons/tabs at the top/bottom that you have to push in for it to come undone. And their freaking exspencive! Some of these things are like $80! I just don't like that buckle, and I just couldn't seem to find the right combo. Some riggers had the metal V-buckle, others the loop, but this one kept getting my attention. It's made by s.o.tech, and they don't take to lightly to simple! The fabric that these belt manufactures use come in a couple diff grades, and they use the highest, the stitching cord is the same that they use for parachutes. Most belts like this one only have a strength of around 2k, but this one is 7k, and it also has a little something that others don't, a little pocket! The newer ones have a zipper sewn in, which is great, but I guess you got to drop your shorts in order to get to it, this one looks like you might be able to twist the belt if you suck it in, and open the pocket? I guess I'll just have to wait and see. The other thing I can't tell is if the pocket is sewn in, or if it's just Velcro holding it? Cause what if you flipped the belt and fed it in from the right? The pocket would be upside down? Either way I broke down and got it, but in black, and cheap! Now comes the bad part, waiting!

Being left handed I put belts on from the left so that belt would work for me.
I'm not too keen on the velcro though.

 but of course! I'm right handed and I also start form the left so it will work for me! Which Velcro, the one on the pocket or the belt? Grant it it doesn't last forever, so on the pocket it should be fine since it shouldn't be used often, now the one on the belt, ahh, I can get used to it, over time if it gives way I guess it will just get better, lol.

This s.o.tech belt velcro pouch looks neat. I have the Bison belt with zipper pouch, the burr on metal buckle ripped up one edge of the belt when I started wearing.

Looking for one with non-metal-detector-beeping buckle. Anyone have recommendations?

Fist I have to strongly disagree on one point - the dressy leather belt. Suspenders have it beat and they look more refined without squeezing your gut out.

As far as this hidden compartment belt is concerned, it might be useful for more things than just cash in your day to day situations. If you are jogging for instance, it might be a nifty way to carry a SAK and a cell phone (I believe some models with similar features can accommodate today's larger phones)

The same design? Or just a metal free one with a zippered pocket? Cause your not going to find a riggers setup in plastic, well I shouldn't say that there was one plain and simple but without a compartment. Even the first post on this subject I have a pic with four belts, the one is carbon fiber also from bison.

I'll like a non-metal buckle with inner pouch for travel and one without pouch for daily wear. Just locked up Bison's website, T Lock Money Belt ($18.50-23.00) fits the bill for travel. Maybe a polymer click buckle belt from Blackhawk for daily.

Do you remember the model and price of your Bison Carbon Fiber buckle belt?
