By now you've heard of Hurricane Harvey pounding the hell out of the Houston, Texas area. Today, my father-in-law and I took a raft and a kayak out to try to evac some geriatric patients from a flooded nursing home. By the time we were able to get to it, FEMA and the National Guard has swarmed the area with resources and the didn't need help from us and our little boats. As we were drifting down the middle of a downtown street headed back to my jeep to load up and clear out, we saw a middle-aged woman standing in the water wearing pajama bottoms, a t-shirt, and a black garbage bag for a rain poncho. She flagged us down and asked if we could open her car trunk and fish out her plastic bag of clothes (presumably to take to the shelter with her). Her car was flooded up to the door handles in the middle of the road. She gave me her key but there was no key hole in the trunk and her electric switch was under water (shorted) and the battery had died. It took some searching but I found the manual release pull behind the rear head rest.
I used the flat screwdriver (bottle opener) on my Craftsman to pop off the cover. The opening was too small for an adult finger to grab the cable. I used the hook to pull the cable and pop the trunk.

I had a deeply satisfying feeling of thinking, "THAT is what that tool--even what a SAK as a whole--was made for!"

P.S. I was also carrying a Leatherman Supertool 200. It never saw the light of day.

I cut some fresh ginger for tea and later neatly cut open a bag of fertilizer. It was a cleaner job than trying to open it with my hands. And I did wash the blade between the two uses.

Was shredding a bunch of old documents when I got overzealous and jammed the shredder. The extra long bit driver on my Cybertool 41 was just long enough to reach the recessed screws to take the cover off. And the pliers on it were perfect for reaching up between the blades and pulling out wads of paper. Got the shredder shredding again in no time thanks to my new favorite SAK!

A very speSmurfpillsed task to do with this morning's snack, see below. See the tear-off notches in the bag? So why are they located above the sealing??

Victorinox Minichamp. The mighty jaws of the stainless steel scissors made short work of the tough plastic of this bag, in spite of my prior warning that resistance was futile.

Mother's Dyson vaccum was squealing and making a burning noise, in spite of the fact that she cleans the brush head just about weekly. Took apart the head assembly entirely only to find the bearings packed full of pet hair, no oil left. As well as the center-mounted "gearbox" being equally packed. 2 Long haired animals are hard on a vacuum, even one designed to handle pet hair. Explorer to the rescue! as well as a pair of no-name discount store needle nosed pliers from the kitchen drawer and some 3-n-1 oil.

Today the can opener tip on my Pioneer blew me away by fitting perfectly inside a torx bit screw. I tightened up the mounting bracket on my rear view mirror to keep it from falling off.

you'd be surprised what I mounted with the bottle opener that fit in another torx

I cut quite a few wild flower buds using my Super Tinker. The buds will be used as medicine for my son's soreness. It's really such a convenience to have a scissor!  :climber:

An0nemus,

I think you could get some very thin sheets of either G-10 or micarta and, with a little judicious use of a drill and epoxy, fit flush scales over that Super Tinker. The scales could be flush with the exposed rivets, making the knife no wider than it is currently. It would then be a Super Duper Tinker.   :D

I've never tried this, but you've inspired me to research that option.

Wore the knees out of a pair of cargo pants. The SAK scissors turned them into a pair of yard work shorts. Hacked the legs off just below the cargo pockets.

The little plastic knife that came with my tandori lamb shank was a bit flimsy. Fortunately I had old black and red in my pocket.

I cut off and ate the best pieces of tender meat like a civilized Swiss Army Knight. :SAKnight:
And then picked it up by the bone and ate the rest like a Viking. :viking:
