I was watching videos on youtube and came across one on Wenger's channel that mentioned the Screwdriver Safety Lock. I honestly had no idea that Wengers offered this in there knives. Very good idea in my opinion. Does Victorinox use this in any of there knives or is it strictly Wenger?

I know Wenger patented it.. but since Vic now owns them they might be able to use it themselves as well?

They do not, but Victorinox offers some of their drivers with a half-stop, so that they can be used, safely, at a 90 degree angle too and some come with locking drivers too (New soldier)

I liked the locking drivers (Philips and Large bottle opener) but I liked the 90 degrees option from Victorinox more. If they could be combined that would be perfect.
The lockable knife blade is much more important for me. And it is a simple thing. Wengers are much safer, considering also the half stop when closing the blade.

The Elseners are adamant about running the two companies as two seperate companies, so don't expect to see any carry over from one to the other.

You can't see it, you can only feel it. When you push the screw head with one of the drivers, the driver goes in for about 1mm and locks in place. It gets out again when you relieve tension by some kind of a spring and then you may fold it again. Brilliant, simple and effective.

The notch on the bottle opener and the backspring form a lock when you apply pressure to the bottle opener, the bottle opener slides a bit lower and into the backspring notch. That's why the pivot "hole" is bigger and shaped to allow that downward movement of the bottle opener.

Edit: I just realized I used a broken bottle opener for the pic.

I EDCed a Wenger with that patent for many years (not sure how many, probably more than ten, and it was my only pocket knife), and I'm actually not much of a fan. It feels like a great idea when the knife is new, but at least in my case, it grew less effective over time. My theory is the bigger hole in the tang allows gunk to travel there and accumulate.

KISS is a great principle.

the closest Vic came to this is the little 'nub' they introduced on the large flat and Phillips drivers a few years ago.

Vic came up with a new design this summer with the new batch of red and black Cadets and the Cadets with sheath. Next to the halfstop they added a nub to the back of the bottle opener which makes it a lot harder to close compared to the old design. We had a thread about it back in July. Here's a pic by Syph007 showing the new and old design side by side. I don't know if the change was implemented on the Cellidor scaled models as well.

IIRC it's been around on the 91mm range since 2005 (or there about), perhaps even longer.  That pic shows it very well, though it should be noted that on the 91mm size there was a long period (1985-2005-ish) where there was the 90 degree stop but no 'nub'.

For some reason the 84mm size didn't get updated until very recently.

(Image removed from quote.)

I have about a dozen Recruits (yes, I know that's an awful lot) and one of them has that new type spring setup. So I guess the answer is yes it has.

It showed up about a year ago on 84mm models, and doesn't seem to be alox specific. I have a recruit I picked up late December that has same setup.
