paratool
on: December 19, 2012, 04:35:40 PM
I just ordered a paratool from Amazon for £47, going to try it for legal edc here in UK. Any one else edc one of these? Its only my second sog, I have a power plier, really like the power assist pliers on that bad boy! I may end up swapping out the knife blade eventualy, will see how it goes for a while.
It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I like them, and still have one in rotation.

I think they way they fold is an acquired taste for some, but they do make great legal EDC :D

Zed, does the ppp have rolled edges to the plier handles, as per a lm wave? As I notice it doesnt have handle covers and does it have compound leverage?
It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Also, do the bendy pliers have any real use when used at the 90 drgree angle?
It seemed like a good idea at the time.

The handles are rounded and there is no compound leverage

You can use them at 90 degrees, in tight places.

Did you mean does the ppp have compound leverage as yes it does and works great so needs less pressure so handle edges not a huge issue ,i did use the paratools pliers at a angle but fiddly too use like this, but a very nice mt  :tu:

Oh yes, the ppp has compound leverage. I though you were asking about the paratool only, which does not.

The paratool is a nice multitool, but just a tad of a challenge getting the tools in and out because of how the pliers fold.  You can still interchange different tools and customize it to your liking.  The overall size is around that of a PST.  Great tool!

Yes the PPP does have compound leverage,no it doesnt have rolled edges. The theory is that the compound leverage aleviates the need for excessive pressure in closing the pliers.

As to the Paratool, they're good fun, just needs getting used to if your used to normal butterfly MTs.Great for customising the tool load!

Wehay....got it today. Smaller than i thought. similar tool spec as the LM juice s2, apart from the scissors, which i miss, but then sog scissors are poo anyway. I think it needs a dedicated small flat head screwdriver, the one on the end of the can opener doesnt have much reach. Quality of build is top notch, really like it so far. Swap driver for the awl? Dont use an awl much, but I do like it.

I notice on my ppp it is held together with small torx screws and not hex bolts. Is this normal on a ppp? I thought all sog's tools used hex bolts for easy modding/disasembly?

I believe the earlier SOG's/PPP's used hex nuts and a set of two hex wrenches were available and the newer models use the round headed torx/hex screws :tu:

finaly recieved my paratool yesterday, bloody well took long enuff! i ordered it weeks ago. Really like the quality of the steel, the tool load out and the size/weight. plier head is very stiff to deploy, but will loosen up in time. theres definately a knack to opening it up to get the tools out, not exactly intuitive, definately different! Overall tho.....I like it. And its UK legal edc to boot. Oh yes, and this one is held together with torx screws too, not hex bolts, as is my new ppp I mentioned earlier.........jurys still out on that one.
