Skeletool Mod fodder?
on: January 02, 2013, 05:01:38 PM
Just saw this on Ebay in the UK, not sure if it's a CX or standard, and the seller says the blade has been removed, I'd guess he probably still has it, just ebay rules wont let him list it. Might be worth a look for anyone after spare part or two.

Item specifics
Condition:   Used :
Seller notes:   “Excellent condition”
Type:    Multitools    Manufacturer:    Leatherman
Sub-Type:    Leatherman skeletool

Perfect working condition

The knife is completely removed and cannot be supplied  due to Ebay regulations.

The knife has been discarded

This is shady.......... 'Perfect working condition' with no knife? 'Excellent condition' with no knife? Just out of curiosity, what are the eBay regs that the knife can't be supplied? Is it a UK law thing?

Ebay rules are a pain when it comes to multitools, or anything with a knife blade. They routinely remove all listings they find in breach of the "Weapons and Knives policy" which apparently includes ALL multitools with a blade, even down to something like a micra
If I try to buy something against the UK policy from from the US ebay where you guys can list these things I get a message like the following.
As for the description of "Perfect condition", I don't know, but if you look at the picture on the listing the blade is still on the tool, and I've seen stranger ways of listing tools to get around the daft policy.

I managed to once buy a lot of SAK's from the US ebay. I just had to go though paypal instead as ebay were being stupid.

This all happened with ebay a few years ago.  Watchdog (TV programme) 'caught' them allowing people in the UK to by 'illegal' knives from overseas.  Now rather than ebay standing up for themselves and pointing out that 2 of the 3 knives were in fact perfectly legal, and it really has nothing to do with them as to who buys what from whom, they caved and put a blanket ban on all knife sales.  Simpler for them to police as anything that has a knife is now just removed.

Nothing to do with UK law, just trial by media. >:(

^ Sad but true.

Chances are the seller has the blade and would ship it. A PM would answer the question I'm sure. Otherwise, adding some 91mm Vic scissors instead might make a rather good tool :)
