Ice Fishing Lunch
on: January 05, 2013, 04:13:08 AM
We did a lot of ice fishing during our most recent trip to my in-laws.  On day 3 we build a fire on the shore and grilled our lunch.  The light colored sausage is a typical hot dog.  The darker sausages are hot dogs made with venison.  The largest sausage is a bratwurst made with venison and cheddar cheese.  The venison versions were made with natural casings which gave them that satisfying snap when we took bites of them.

Later we also had cubes of venison steak wrapped with jalapeno and bacon.

I like'em in a bun with stone ground mustard and lots of onion! :D

I understand this statement is just as true without the word 'ice' in the sentence.

You know when your brother-in-law comes home from a day of fishing with a sunburn... on the bottoms of his feet... there was drinking involved.

He had his shoes off, and his feet hanging off the boat. He put sunscreen on his legs, but the light bouncing off the water burned the bottoms.

Its weird....when you are standing outside all day in freezing weather you can swallow loads of greasy food that would never stay down on a warm day.

That looked like a fantastic lunch!
I love sausages cocked on an open fire out in the woods, or by a lake.

Yep there was plenty of beer to wash down the lunch.  Actually lots of pseudo beer with a little beer for those of use who actually like the taste of beer.

The fish weren't biting,  but when we were about to change the name of our activity to ice drinking, we actually caught a few.  None were keepers.  In Michigan Northern Pike must be 24" to keep and most of ours were 23".

Just before packing our gear we were treated to this sunset.

(I know you weren't done fishing at that point, because there are still two bottles of beer left) :D
