'ello everybody!
I stumbled across this forum by accident and after doing some reading, I've got the feeling you guys are a pretty friendly bunch!
A lil' about me: I'm 18 and I've discovered my affinity to knifes not so long ago... It all began when my father gave me his Vic ( classic story, isn't it  :D ). It's hard to describe how I got hooked but here I am now - learning about knifes/blades as much as I possibly can! I want to know more about materials used for knife making ( I'm currently astonished by damascus blades ), blade sharpening, knife collecting etc.
My prime interest goes to Victorinox SAKs, I started collecting them ( literally started - have two of them  :D ), I find them to be great value for money, hell, my Vic never let me down! My current task is to get a storage case ( the art.leather one with a zipper that holds 40 knifes ), some silica gel to keep the moisture out and renaissance wax to make them last a lifetime - if not longer! I hope I'm not missing anything for my collecting "adventure"...
That's briefly about me, once again I greet you all with a lot of respect.

In my experience, what you need to keep a Victorinox in fine shape for 30 years is to not drop it in salt water and leave it there. Besides that... they'll pretty much just stay fine. A friend gave me an Explorer he got when he was a kid, back in the mid 80s. He beat the knife up, then threw it in a drawer for 22 years before giving it to me. I cleaned the crud out of it... not a speck of rust. GOOD stuff!
