Yay! We have more than one page of threads!

When Grant opened this, I had this great fear that this forum would be me in here by myself, yelling...

"Hello?"
With only echoes, 'ello...ello...ello...', and the occasional chirp of crickets.

I very happy to see that it's a fun topic for folks.  :tu:

I'm well impressed how this section has taken off. I didn't expect it to be quite so well received if I'm honest

I guess most of us at one point or another have been drawn by the siren song of the cheap tool in the plastic bucket right at the check-out lane. So most of us have something to say, or show. Just a guess.

It's funny how this parallels another project of mine years ago.

In the old days on Knifeforums.com everything was tactical folder this and giant fixed blade that.  If you so much as mentioned a SAK someone would say "Get rid of that toy and get yourself a real knife!"

Then one day SOSAK started, more as a joke than anything else, and the next thing you know it started to build... and build.... and build... and soon it was one of the busiest forums on KF not just because everyone had one but because they used them on jobs that were too dirty for their $300 tactical folder.  Soon the "cheap toys" were dominating the discussions at KF.

Fast forward to now- a different time on a different forum and you can see that the "cheap crap" is something everyone has at least some familiarity with!

This is an excellent point. There are several sub-forums here that aren't my thing, but I'm happy that they're here for others to enjoy. It's a big world, and there's plenty of space for lots of kinds of interests.

As I think most folks here know by now, I am happy that THIS forum was made.

I'm having a ball with this forum too.  This forum truly covers the good, the bad and the ugly.  There's more variety here than any other forum, except perhaps General because let's face it, what are the odds that Leatherman is going to come out with a keychain sized hammer tool where the head splits in half and becomes pliers?  Or that Victorinox is going to make a folding hatchet with a wrench and flashlight in the handle?

Its amazing to think of the number of things you can experiment with when you aren't worried about quality control, liability or reputation!

While this leads to the most radical and useless ideas, it's also where the most cutting edge, great ideas might be found.

Also, I now need a keychain size hammer tool, because... ummm....
Okay, I now WANT a keychain size hammer tool... because... Uhhhhhmmmmmmmm
Yeah, no, nevermind.

I doubt it- the manufacturers don't seem to care about patents.  In fact, I often wonder why anyone cares about them anymore other than to be able to show off and say you have your name on a patent.

As soon as I find it I'll post pictures.  It was around here somewhere....  It's basically this one, but keychain sized.

Finally a forum that I identify with completely. If I have time I'll post some of my cheapies.

Okay, I now WANT a keychain size hammer tool...
You mean like this ?

Marbles Mini Tool Keychain Set 2 3/4" Hammer & Pliers BOXED GIFT SET NEW

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Marbles-Mini-Tool-Keychain-Set-2-3-4-Hammer-Pliers-BOXED-GIFT-SET-NEW-/370695631478?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item564f2e7276#ht_838wt_1163

I know it is totally wrong, but I am so tempted to buy these just for the silliness factor of having a 2 3/4" long hammer based multitool ! :D ::) ;)  :gimme:

That would be identical to the one I have, except mine isn't orange!

I love some of the wacky, bizarre designs they keep coming out with!

Good call on that.
 :tu:

I just came across a juice-alike, and wondered if it was worth the $20 it was listed for.

Would that be the Ruiss XE6 lookylikey?

I just got one of those and a P4alike for a combined price of $32 to my door in the Uk!

It's actually a pretty good tool for the price - there are of course cons: the aluminium scales are even thinner than the LM ones and the file is pretty hopeless to be honest, but everything else is perfectly servicable.
The whole tool's a tad more "wobbly" than the real thing but hey, you gets what you pays for and this isn't at all bad bearing in mind I paid about £12 for it compared to the £98 asked for the genuine article.
The LM is still my EDC though.

The P4 clone is actually even better...!
