Tapa talk HD
on: January 23, 2013, 12:19:52 AM
Someone (I think Buzz bait?) mentioned that Tapa talk HD was now available for Android so I decided to check it out.  Its on for $3 at the moment instead of the regular $6 so I thought what the heck.

Its different from "regular" Tapa talk, but I don't know if I'd say it's any better.  I'll have to use it for a few days to really see what I think.

Is anyone else using the fancy version, and if so, what are your thoughts?

What additions does it have?

It isn't available here yet.

Edit: Ah, I see it's only for tablets. Never mind then.

It has a few more options, and there are icons for a few things you have to go through the menu for on "regular" Tapatalk.  When you are looking at the new unread topics page it's a split screen with options to edit your profile, jump to certain forums etc.  I'm not sure I like it at the moment, but that may be because it's new and different and we fear change.

I did notice an emoticon option that I'll have to have a closer look at.

TBH on my Nexus 7 I don't see the need for Tapatalk, I can just use the full forum in a browser. I just zoom in to click smaller links, on my phone it might be different as the screen is a lot smaller, and much lower resolution, but then, I don't think it qualifies as HD.

I'm using the regular Tapatalk on my 7" tab, but I've been using Tapatalk HD on my 10" tab since it was released, and it's much, much better on a large screen.

There doesn't appear to be any extra features, just significant layout changes.

I like it.

Maybe since the features are more acceptable I didn't realize they were there in the old version.

It's not getting good reviews in the iOS App Store. Especially from users of the first version. I'm in no rush to change, despite their sending me push notifications and pop up windows...

I'm using the iOS version to type this.

It has one major bug that smurfs me off every time I use it: when there's more than 50 unread threads, I get to the button of the first 50 and hit the bottom so that it will load the next 50, but it just loads the first 50 again. The only way to get past it is to go in and out of each thread individually and refresh the whole forum.

I'm liking the HD so far on Android. My only real bitch is that I can't pan around on a zoomed image. Must be a bug.

The smilies are pretty cool. :D

Mine locks up from time to time.  I find it a bit frustrating.  Also, when I click on a post to reply (as I did with the old Tapatalk) it wants me to edit that post rather than reply to it.  Admittedly that is probably only a moderator problem, but it's something I noticed and it's a bit of a pain in the bum.

Still, I have uninstalled the regular Tapatalk from my Nexus in order to give it a proper shot.  I do find having the extended forum features available in the side panel rather than have to go hunting for them like I do in the regular version.

Hmmmmm. You might want to hit the Tapatalk HD support foum. They have a running bug report thread for the programmers.
