Yes, but HOW are they having Thrawn? Everything from the Expanded Universe was flushed, its not only non-cannon it's barely licensed apocrypha now. Given his involvement with the Empire's super weapons programs, he's either out of the 'verse, or the expanded 'verse starts coming back in. Particularly when you factor in his role with the Outbound project- that got trashed with Order 66, that happened after the Clone Wars.

I'm not complaining if they bring back a lot of the cooler stuff. Danksaber can stay dead though.

I try not to think of Darksaber if I can avoid it.  Or the Witches of Dathomir.

Timothy Zahn may have killed himself after seeing this, just so that he could roll over in his grave.

Considering how many mechanical issues the Falcon has, it's no surprise there's a Falcon specific tool.  :D

Anyone seen Rogue One yet?

I'll probably go and see it after Crimbo, but am really looking forward to it - I'd love to hear what you all thought of it as the trailers look A Mazing.

I haven't yet. We'll likely do the same as we did for The Force Awakens and head to San Sebastian (1h drive) to see it in original version in a smaller theatre as they're only showing it dubbed here in town.

All I've seen are rumours, but that's been constant, there were rumours of him in TFA but that turned out just to be his banner on Maz's Palace, possibly Rogue One (although I think that's been squashed) The stand alone Han Solo film is another option.

I'll be glad to see him pop up where ever.

The cartoons are and have been quite kind in expanding the "mandoverse" so that's something at least.

My thought is if he didn't show in TFA, he's not likely to appear in the trilogy, but since the stand alone films are back and forth in time where ever it suits them it's a solid possibility.

I was just looking at those pics and the 'Vhett' meaning farmer - I love the back story stuff.

He's too interesting a character to not appear somewhere.

I think we're planning on seeing it by the end of the week.  Not quite sure what to expect TBH, I'm a little concerned that we'll be given a lot of ships, gear etc that don't appear in New Hope and there's going to be little to no reason for it.  New Stormtroopers and TIE fighters will bug me the most I suspect.

Looking at the trailer there's a new droid (who will hopefully destroy C3PO at some point  :D ), cool looking Stormtroopers in Black Armour, but apart from that it looks the same. The Rogue One ship is a new design, but in the beige and red colours of the rebellion, and the AT AT's Tie Fighters, X-Wings etc all look canon to ANH as far as I can see.

There are no Jedi in it which will be refreshing (no 'My powers have tripled in strength since we last met' crap) just plain down to earth rebels.

Yeah I'm kind of not sure about new troops/ships. I know (from the toys & figures) that there are quite a few we never see after this, which makes absolutely no sense to me.

and, not to sound too cynical, I think we have a reason for new troops and ships right there. ;)

yes, but Vader wasn't technically in TFA, and they still swamped us with loads more Vader stuff (I'm not complaining, that means I get more Boba Fett stuff too...)

But every time I see more advanced tech in a movie that is supposed to be before the original trilogy I can't help but cringe. The other day EP1 was on tv... and I couldn't help thinking how did the tech advancement present then go backwards 50 years between trilogies....

I have seen it.

Don't worry about the tech level, this isn't anything we didn't see between the Battle of Yavin and Endor. Trust me. This is the Star Wars universe we all grew up with. The U-Wing is not some supership, it's a good, solid craft that fits one hell of a special niche and they use it right. I have only ONE quibble and it is small and easily over looked.

My in-universe explanation: This story is not like the old propaganda, huggy feely pieces that were put out during the Rebellion. This is the Republic having authorized a drama about events that took 40 years to declassify. It feels dirty. It feels like there is some real ugliness in the universe.
