Love those emerald scales Butch. Though I think they're prolly worth more than the Chinese clone you've stuck them on.  :D

How do you find the Vic sharpener? I keep thinking of buying one, but my current system (ceramic rod and stropping belt) is working well. I'd be interested on your thoughts.

Unless it's a Chinese sharpener.  :pok:

Hey the Chinaman I bought that SAK from swore to me it was Swiss........... :P

The sharpener is good, it is a course ceramic & does a pretty good job of touching up a blade. If it is in real need of attention I use an Ezylap diamond sharpener or a Diamond vee but I use the vic to finish off the process. I think I got my moneys worth.

 :climber:
:salute: Thanks B - I might add one to my Birthday list.

Here's the bail bruv - not a great job, but it's made from a piece of coathanger. I really need to get better and find some thicker material.

I took the bail off of an SI once, and it sure looked like it would be a tough bit to work with, with hand tools anyway.

That one looks fine!  :tu:

You're right about that. Hiraethus sent me a bit of steel spring wire to try out, but I just don't have the tools to make a decent job - too springy. The coathanger wire is tough enough, and pretty maleable so will do for now.

I have used the vise to form small parts and wire shapes, but it sure mangles the surface, tightening down so hard to prevent slippage...

Ever tried masking tape to soften the vice jaws? I use it on my mini anvil and it helps.

Use a piece of wood. Strong enough to keep things in place, not hard enough to scratch any surface. It molds to the thing you're holding in the vise. If you notice, sometimes wood it's used under scaffolds, to level them and prevent sliding.
