Double bladed alox mod
on: January 29, 2013, 04:03:50 PM
The other day I scored an alox mod. Way too thick for my liking though. That's easy to sort out.
So I removed 3 layers, leaving the mainblade and awl, in between polished liners.
I really like how simple you can replace a broken blade if needed.
Syph is so friendly to help me out with grinding down the pivots.

What sets this swiss slippy of for me as a good user is how smooth it is all around, with no tangs sticking out from the blade nor the awl (like a traditional harness jack). Nice and lightweight, yet build like a tank, handles excellent, cuts very well, sharpens great, easy to clean and mantain. Awesome inline awl. Super steel and blade. Handsome looks. What more do you need..
(besides a Spirit :D )

Ya that would be a nice slim user for sure.  Ive been thinking about combining the neglected parts I had made up into something nice looking.  Noone ever wants the gray anodized scales I made, nor the blue liners.  So I think I might make one like you have there, a one layer, with grey scales and blue inner liners, so kind of give the neglected parts their chance to shine. :D

That color combination sounds nice to me. If you think gray looks weird, you haven't seen chocolat brown!
Great use of leftover blades anyways.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Awesome! Glad the package made it to you safe.  That was actually quicker than I expected.  I would have had your cadet with scissors and pocket clip done last night but I broke my last carbide drill bit!  I had to express order some from knifekits and hopefully fedex will arrive tomorrow with a package of goodies for me.

Cheers

I see a second liner on the side of the awl. Did you include this one for symmetry reasons, Dr. Syph? ;)

Actually, I included the ti-liners and its symmetrical. I asked syph to put one on each side.
Pure function  :D

Thanks nuph.  8)

Color I would say a matte silverish gray. Like unpolished silver, doesn't reflect light as much.

(Nobody likes the HA gray, I heard Syph is having a giveaway.. >:D )

You're the first and only person to want gray, so I think they are going to get stripped and re-anodized a different color.

A comparison with standard silver alox and my gray.  I think not different enough to generate any interest.

Playing Lego on a rainy sunday afternoon.

Simply removing 2 liners, adding a spring and saw, bright scales, et voila the Bushcrafter (in pic next to a Farmer).

Nothing to it - this modding is so easy   :D
